The historical town of Sarteano sits in southern Tuscany’s beautiful Val d’ Orcia, rising along the eastern side of the Cetona mountain. Many of which offer panoramic views of the surrounding unspoilt countryside. As well as many medieval landmarks and attractions within Sarteano, there are a number of daytrip opportunities to take advantage of.
Sarteano has a number of historical landmarks and monuments worth visiting. You can take your pick from the Churches of San Martino and San Francesco, the Municipal Palace, the castle Castiglioncello del Trinoro, the Piccolomini Palace and the Archaeological Civic Museum.
The area is also famous for its thermal waters – known as Holy Bath, which are believed to have therapeutic properties. The springs are in a park, just a short walk from the town centre, and are also used to fill an outdoor swimming pool.
Sarteano’s biggest event is held every August, when thousands of visitors come from all around for the Giostra del Saracino.
