Tucked away on a small square in Cruzy (Quarante's sister village), the house is only a few minutes walk away from the village shops (baker, butcher, grocer, café-tabac, pharmacy), hairdresser and twice-weekly market. This ‘maison de maître’ has preserved its nineteenth century features (elegant tiles, large rooms, high ceilings and marble fireplaces), and is pleasantly cool in summer and well heated in winter. It is comfortably appointed for anything from two to seven people, with plenty of space to relax in. There are three/four reception rooms and four/five bedrooms, two WCs/bathrooms and a fully equipped kitchen. In the front there is a large sunny courtyard to eat in, or enjoy a drink and watch the evening sky change over the ‘fortress-church’ tower. All ages stay comfortably at the house, but please note that there are a few steps up to the front door, and a large staircase from the ground floor to the first floor.

Cruzy is a historic, living, wine-producing village in the heart of the Languedoc, where the coastal plain meets vineyards and green hills. Walk, cycle or take a boat up the Canal du Midi to the famous 'seven locks' at Beziers, or to Sallèles d'Aude with its antiques, bookshop, restaurants and Roman pottery museum. You can enjoy ‘wine walks’ through the garrigue (Saint-Chinian, Faugères, Coteaux du Languedoc, Minervois etc.), and meals at the excellent restaurants on the Canal. Swim on sandy beaches near Narbonne, at the ‘river beach’ in Bize-Minervois, or at the pool-side restaurant in Argeliers. In Narbonne, see splendid Roman frescoes, impressive archbishop's palace, and one of France's most beautiful - and scrumptious!- covered markets. The area has a wealth of Roman remains, abbeys and medieval villages. The amazing walled city of Carcassonne, is an hour’s drive away. Montpellier, Nîmes, the Pyrennes and N.Spain are all within reach. Or just stay close to home and chill out!

A holiday in this property will appeal to a family or group of friends that enjoy staying in a character property and like being in a genuine southern French atmosphere. Meals in local resturants, tempting produce to prepare, Saint Chinian wine on tap at the local wine co-operative, other wines including muscat not far away, local feasts (village fetes, Beziers feria, music in churches etc.), lazy walks in the country, cylce rides along the Canal du Midi, and busy (in summer) beaches are just some of the things to do. But it will also appeal to those who like sight-seeing, because of the wealth of historical and cultural monuments around. The summer is generally hot and sunny, but the house is reasonably cool; the 'arriere-saison' often brings lovely autumns, and in winter you may need the central heating on but have sunny days outside.
