This area of the Costa Dorada has a great deal to offer. The local towns of L'Ampolla and L'Ametlla are a breath of fresh air, rare gems in the Mediterranean coastline.The local town of L'Ametlla (5mins away) is a traditional fishing village with a relaxing atmosphere & good selection of shops, bars and restaurants. The popular resorts of Salou and Cambrils are within 20/30minutes (by car, or regular train service from L'Ametlla). Salou is also the home of to one of the largest adventure theme parks in Europe, the Universal Studios Portaventura & 2 water parks. The historic cities of Reus and Tarrgona are within easy reach, they are bustling vibrant places, ideal for a spot of shopping, sampling the traditional tapas restaurants, or gazing at the architecture. Tarragona also has an impressive Roman amphitheatre. The magnificent city of Barcelona is only 90mins away where the influence of Gaudi has help make it one of the most impressive cities in the world.
How to get here:
Reus international airport is served by Ryan Air all year round (advertised as Barcelona Reus and sometimes Reus Salou), offering flights from Dublin, Glasgow, Liverpool, Luton, Stansted, Birmingham, Bournemouth and Bristol. Additionally there is a selection of other airlines operating in the summer, including, First Choice, Thomsons, My Travel etc. Barcelona Airport is served by a variety of low cost airlines flying daily from the UK and Ireland (including, Easyjet, My Travel Lite, Thomson Fly etc.) Girona Airport is served by a variety of low cost airlines including Ryanair and Easyjet offering flights from all of the UK and Ireland. Valencia airport is served by both low cost and scheduled airlines, including Ryanair from East Midlands.
Golf & Markets:
The Bon Mont golf course is within a 15minute drive of L’Ametlla and 25minute drive of L’Ampolla. This is a championship 18 hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jnr. with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and coastline. There are 3 other courses within 45minutes of this area, including an amazing 18 hole course in Castelleon designed by Bernhard Langer. The local markets are very popular with the tourists and locals alike. There is a daily indoor market in L'Ametlla offering fresh produce. And a twice weekly outdoor market offering, clothes, shoes and souvenirs. Most of the local towns host weekly markets, one of the most popular being the Sunday market in Hospitalet del Infant (approx 15min away), this is a bustling market in the summer, with a wide selection of clothes, bags and jewelery stands.
