A delightful, charming 19th century townhouse, in Belesta, Ariege, which is situated in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Close to the famous Cathar stronghold at Montsegur and the natural wonder of Fontestorbes This unique three bedroom house, sleeps six, comfortably. The property was renovated, to a very high standard, during 2008 – 2009. Many original features have been retained, including exposed stonework, original doors and windows, and wooden beams, giving the house real character. The house has stunning views of the Pyrenees and the local area. The rear of the property is south facing, so the terrace and garden have sun all day.

FONTESTORBES - One of the natural wonders of the World. Characterized by a most extraordinary phenomenon, the spring waters run in a constant flow most of the year. Yet, they suddenly become intermittent at low water time, July – September, due to rhythmic regular rate of flow variations. Fewer than thirty similar phenomena of intermittent water flow sites exist around the world. The cave entrance can be accessed by steppingstones, which cross the flowing water. LOCAL AMENITIES - Belesta offers a relaxing and picturesque base with easy access to the surrounding beauty and places of interest in the Ariege. Within a two-minute walk from the house, the town hosts a variety of shops. Patisserie, Boulangerie, Pizzeria, Newsagent, Post Office, Bank, Butchers, Troubadour Restaurant, listed in the Rough Guide.

  • Euros are also accepted - please enquire for a price. Prices quoted are per week. We will try to be flexible over chageover days, please ask. A phone call or email will secure a provisional booking which will be held for up to 3 days. A 25% deposit is required when booking, and the balance is due 6 weeks prior to the rental. A breakage and extra cleaning deposit of £100 is payable with the final balance, and is refunded within 14 days of your return.

Local Beach: The house is just fifteen minutes from the child friendly lake and beach at Puivert. The lake is shallow, and is netted for extra safety. The beach provides ample opportunities for children to play. There is a cafe, and other play facilities. One and a half hours drive can take you to the Mediterranean or the border of Northern Spain.

Skiing: The local ski station of Mont D'Olmes is a typical French family resort suitable for all ages, and is 30 mins drive. The station has a four man chair lift and various button lifts for easy access to the picturesque slopes. 50 minutes drive takes you to the larger ski station of Ax Les Thermes. Only half an hour away is the ski station of Chioula where you can take part in Nordic Skiing, snow shoeing or sledging.

Route of the Cathars: There is a great deal of history in the area, as we are on the Route of the Cathars, and we are twenty minutes away, by car, from Montsegur. There are many other Cathar castles within easy driving distance.
