Latina Province holiday house: Terracina

'A very tastefully furnished house set in the very old heart of historic Terracina, just 5 minutes walk from the main square, although 15 minutes walk from the 5 mile sandy beach (although a pleasant walk through the old town and new town shopping streets, we generally stopped on the way back for
a cool drink.) Lovely roof terrace for daytime sunbathing or evening relaxation.

You are spoilt for choice for good restaurants within walking distance. Terracina also has excellent shopping and a unique canal system which runs through the town from the port. (Just 5 mins walk behind the house we explored the canals and saw otters swimming).

The house is ideally positioned for the station which has a direct link with Rome in approx an hour and a half. We caught a tour bus from the station in Rome and saw all the sights no problem in a day (in August most of Rome is closed for the locals which is not good for them but ideal for tourists as it is not choked with traffic).

Buses from Terracina are quite limited and can be quite slow so if staying for a fortnight would recommend a car (although we would say that parking outside the house needs quite a bit of expertise due to narrow winding streets in the old town - there is a good carpark about 100 yards away which we never saw busy). We caught a boat to the Pontine Islands from the
port which was expensive (about 100 Euros for a family) but it was a memorable day). There was a large fairground at the waterfront during our stay which was superb, not sure if this is a regular feature. We travelled in August and found there to be regular live events in the square, 'Miss/Mr Terracina were unmissable!!'

Our hosts Marina, Roberta and their daughters were extremely
hospitable,and all went out of their way to make or stay as memorable as it could be.

Finally, to summarise, we would say that Terracina has a lot to offer, and this house is well situated for those wishing to experience the real Italy, this is a working town, not just a resort. We would often arrive from an evening out to meet the neighbours watching the football out in the street (they were so friendly!!) A minor warning - There were a couple of power cuts in the old town whilst we were there which meant that we lost the contents of our fridge on one occasion!
