A unique property for the area, Folia is right by the sea, with the bedroom 'on the beach'. The single storey house makes no pretence to be modern, but has all amenities for a truly wonderful holiday. There is a double bedroom facing the sea; a spacious living/dining area with 2 built in couches suitable as single beds; a separate kitchen and shower room. Furnishings are traditional and add to the Cretan flavour of this old village school house. An outside staircase takes you onto the flat roof which is a magnificent area to sunbathe or take an evening cocktail overlooking the sea below you. A delightful garden with trees and plants gives you a unique view to the Island of Spinalonga and your private gate to the sea only a couple of meters away. The garden opens onto the road in Plaka and is only a few seconds walk to the nearest restaurant also on the beach. The house is being decorated a& updated for the 2010 season. It is a perfect place for couples and honeymooners.

Plaka is situated to the north east of Crete, 5 minutes by car from the town of Elounda, 15 minutes from Agios Nikolaos and about one hour from the capital's airport, Heraklion. The region is full of historical interest and is in an area of outstanding beauty. The mountains and sea are never far away. The island of Spinalonga is 10 minutes by boat and the famous archealogical site of Knossos just over an hour away. Swimming at Plaka is on a large pebbled beach excellent for snorkelling. It is a paradise for walkers and nature lovers. Griffin vultures nest in the mountains overlooking Plaka. There are many old Cretan villages in the mountains above Plaka and overlooking the north coast; there are unspoiled coves and roads with fantastic views and local cafeneons to take a break from the sightseeing. Additional information about rental rates

  • Booking Conditions -
    Written confirmation with the applicable deposit (20% of the accommodation cost) is required to secure the booking. Confirmation of your booking together with an invoice/receipt showing the balance payable will be sent to you. Full payment is due 8 weeks prior to your arrival. Cheques or Bankers Drafts or bank transfer are to be payable to Michael Wilson. If for any reason the balance is not received by the due date, we reserve the right to cancel the booking. For bookings made less than 8 weeks prior to your arrival, the total amount is due with the booking form.

    Cancellation -
    1) By you, the Client: 8 weeks or before your arrival, the deposit will be non-refundable. Less than 8 weeks prior to your arrival, the total cost of the accommodation will be non-refundable if we, the owners, are unable to recover the income by re letting
  • 2) By us, the Owners: Our liability is limited to making the accommodation available for the dates booked. In the event of the accommodation not being available, a full refund will be made of monies paid, plus interest at the appropriate rate for advance payments.

    Force Majeure -
    We are unable to accept responsibility for any aspect of your holiday arrangements beyond our control such as threats of war, civil commotion, riots, industrial disputes, earthquakes or natural disasters, government action or travel delays caused by any reason
    Subletting.
    The accommodation is provided for the sole use of the Clients named on the booking form. Subletting or assignment of the property is not permitted.

    Insurance -
    The Client is strongly advised to take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance for all members of the party.

    Rental Period The rental period commences at 1400hrs on the first day and ends at 1000hrs on the last day.
  • Health & Safety Whilst we make every effort to ensure that the property is as safe as possible, you must accept that the local conditions vary enormously from the UK. We cannot accept any responsibility for your health & safety while staying at the property. We will provide guidelines at the property to assist you in minimizing any risks to your safety.

    Security Crete is still a relatively safe location and does not have a high incidence of crime. However, we cannot accept responsibility for loss or damage to property or persons during the course of your booking.

    Damage caused to the property and/or its contents The Client must accept full responsibility for damage and breakages to the property and goods. All such damages and breakages will be charged for at replacement value and must be paid for prior to departure. A £200 refundable deposit is requested at the time of final payment of the accommodation

Notes: Folia was lovingly restored by an Australian family who used to spend their Summers in Plaka for about 25 years.Situated on the 'main' road in Plaka which still enjoys only light through traffic, the village maintains its charm with only a few tasteful boutiques, a mini market and some lovely tavernas and cafe neons. There has been some recent interest in the area with the novel, The Island, by Victoria Hislop and you can take a boat to the island from Plaka. The book is currently being filmed for a tv series. The house is a sturdy stone structure with traditional thick walls keeping it cool in Summer. The addition of air conditioning in the bedroom gives you the option for further comfort. The roof terrace is a stunning place to sit and if you are early birds the sun comes out of the sea at dawn- unforgettable!-.
