The village is steeped in history which is symbolised by the Gros Tilleul - a large lime tree planted in 1438 in the square.
Activities in the summer include hiking, mountain biking, rafting, climbing, swimming, golf, family adventure parks, horse riding ...the list is enormous!
Ski:
The Grand Massif is one of France's biggest ski area and has 265km of pistes, offering a variety of terrain for all levels, reliable snow cover and lack of queues. The ski season runs from mid-December until the end of April. Samoëns was formerly linked to the circuit a few miles from the village so a ski bus trip was needed to reach the slopes, but now a gondola, the Grand Massif Express, lifts skiers from the village centre up to a key plateau on the circuit, at 1600m, in just eight minutes.
Besides the huge ski area, the Grand Massif has many additional attractions such as wonderful children's snow gardens, a variety of slopes for beginners and experts alike, jamparks and superb panoramic views at Tete des Saix, Les Grands Vans, Les Grandes Platieres, Les Dents Blanche, Les Aravis, the Jura Range and of course the magnificent Mont Blanc.
