Finestrat is divided into two areas - an ancient mountain village and the bustling beach and shopping area known as La Cala de Finestrat.The village of Finestrat is located just 5 klms from the beach and dates back to 1280, when Pedro III, son of Jaume 1 'The Conqueror' issed the Town Charter to the local villagers. It is raised on a hillside characterised by its 'hanging' cliff edge homes and the peculiar narrow streets of Moorish origin. The historical district is located on the foundations of an ancient Arab castle where the lookout point known as 'El Castel' will delight visitors with breathtaking views.Puig Campana, a legendary mountain, is, with its 1410 meters in height, its proximity to the coast and its unusual forms, one of the most emblematic spots on the Costa Blanca. The history of Finestrat cannot be understood without this mountain, because the foot of its slopes have been safeguarded and pampered by the village as its most valuable treasure.
