Surrounded by the Pirin , Rila and Rhodopa mountains, Bansko is essentially a mountain resort with a short but often hot summer and long cold winter. The coldest month is January with the average temperature of around –5 degrees C in the valleys and ski resorts, and up to minus -20 degrees C on the higher peaks in Pirin, where snow cover typically lasts from mid December to April. There are 65kms of ski runs with excellent sking & snowboarding facilities for all levels of experience and ski schools and nursery slopes for beginners. In winter months Bansko has a large outdoor ice skating rink. For non-skiers Bansko remains a great little medieval town with lovely cobbled streets and fine architecture. With over 150 restarants (mehanas) and numerous bars to choose from you won't be bored. In summer don't miss the village of Dobrinishte just 6 km away with its large modern outdoor swimming pool, or take the cable car ride to the Pirin National Park where you can go hiking and
climbing.
