The Church bell still rings as it has done since the beginning of the eighteenth century.
The surrounding hills and pine forest are great for walking and the wealth of wild flowers to be found in Spring is truly amazing.
With very little light pollution, the stars in the night sky are stunning.
Motril:
Motril is the largest town on the Costa Tropical de Granada. Here you have access to modern shops, hundreds of authentic eateries and excellent shopping from luxurious to bargain. The fresh food market is open every day except Sundays and the outdoor market comes to town every Tuesday and Friday morning.
The Costa Tropical of Southern Spain, as featured on more than one occasion on Channel 4's A Place In The Sun, is probably the last remaining unspoilt Costa in Southern Spain, and to this day is still a traditional agricultural working area. Due to it's unique micro-dry climate and over 320 days of sun per year, it can also boast an average year round temperature of 20 degrees. This region benefits from being able to boast 'the healthiest climate in Europe and second in the world', as stated by the World Health Organisation, who also stated: 'almost as perfect an environment as is possible to obtain.
The Tropical Coast:
The subtropical climate and calm and warm waters make it an ideal place for all kinds of water sports. Diving enthusiasts can enjoy one of the most beautiful sea bottoms of the Andalusian coastline. There are also three nude beaches. Cantarriján and El Muerto are near Almuñécar, La Joya is near Motril. The Granada region of Andalucia is still a relatively undiscovered area of Spain, and is steeped in history, but still able to retain its very traditional Spanish roots. Offering the rare combination of the rugged mountains dropping into the warm Mediterranean seas of the Costa Tropical, pretty & friendly coastal fishing villages, quiet beaches, secluded coves, and the contrasting historic white Alpujarras villages nestled to the North in the stunning mountains, all with the back drop of the mighty Sierra Nevada mountains and ski resort. There must be few places in the world where you can at ski 3000m in the morning then return to sea to swim or sunbathe in rhe afternoon.
