Photos and Description of this Laroque des Alberes holiday house Village house, sleeping 6 to 8 in foothills of Pyrenees, close to coast.

A traditional stone-faced village house on four floors, typical of the area and in the heart of the friendly village of Laroque des Alberes, within easy reach of Perpignan, the Mediterranean and the Spanish border. The closest airports are Perpignan and Gerona. The house has been completely renovated over the past few years, is fully equipped and comfortable for use all year round. It has a small secluded courtyard with outdoor furniture and the village has a good range of food shops with a weekly market, cafes and restaurants nearby. The area has a lot to offer in the way of outdoor interests and cultural activities. Locally there are mountain trails starting in the foothills just above the house and rock pools to cool off in during the summer months. The beautiful Cote Vermeille and its lovely sea-side towns and beaches are within easy driving distance and the mountain town of Ceret with its wonderful Saturday market and Modern Art museum is also just a short drive away.

Laroque des Alberes is a traditional Catalan village with good amenities. It is friendly and pleasant, situated in one of the sunniest parts of France and is close to the beautiful Cote Vermeille with its beaches and seaside facilities. The towns of Argeles and Canet and St Cyprian have plenty of modern resort activities to offer while Banyules sur Mer, Port Vendre and Coullioure are more traditional coastal towns with their narrow streets, cafes, shops and galleries. Towards the Pyrenees, the town of Ceret is of particular interest with a Saturday market and modern art museum and further into the mountain, ski resorts are about hours drive away. Access to northern Spain is easy via the motorway and Dali's museum at Figueras is not to be missed. Barcelona is about two hours drive. The city of Perpignan has plenty to offer of cultural and historic interest.

  • The main bathroom has a bath with shower attachment but no screen or curtain. For hand-held showering only. Both bathrooms have basins with mirrors and good lighting.

  • Bedroom 1 is at the front of the house and has wooden shutters. There is large chest of drawers and hanging rail but no wardrobe. Bedroom 2 is at the back of the house and the beds can be put together to form a large double bed. There is a small chest of drawers and hanging area but no wardrobe. Bedroom 3 is in the attic and therefore has sloping ceilings. There is limited storage and it is most suitable for children. There is an air conditioning unit in this room. The smaller living room (which we call the Garden room) can also be used as a bedroom - Bedroom 4, which has a sofa bed. There is limited storage in this room. It is downstairs and opens onto the courtyard garden.

Notes: The stairs to the attic bedroom are steep and not suitable for very young children. Please ask owners for further information about this if necessary. There are three large portable fans available and one air conditioning unit in the attic bedroom which can also be used as a heater. There are thermostatically controlled wall-heaters in all other rooms. There are tennis racquets and various toys/games suitable for the beach. Please note beach towels are not provided. There is a large umbrella which can be used in the courtyard. There are six chairs and an outdoor table for outside use as well as two loungers. There is a roof terrace on the flat roof over the smaller living room (which we call the Garden room). This is fully enclosed with iron railings.
