Photos and Description of this Murlo holiday house Quiet, traditional 2 bedroom house to sleep 4 in historic rural location

This comfortable and attractive house is built into the 13th century walls of the mediaeval hilltop 'castello' of Murlo dating from the year 1000, of Etruscan origins. Set up like a townhouse, entry is off the picturesque central square opposite the museum. A flight of stairs opens into a large Tuscan-style living room with traditional fireplace and comfortable furnishings. The spacious eat-in kitchen with washer, dishwasher, is on the same floor, as is the main bathroom with bath and shower. Stairs lead up to the bedrooms. The master bedroom, facing over the hills, has a double bed. The smaller twin-bedded second bedroom is over the square and has a WC/basin en suite. There is a private patio and small garden with superb views of the Tuscan hills as far as the distant Siena skyline. The village is a pedestrian area; loading and unloading permitted. Typical restaurant across the square. Ideal location for visiting Tuscan towns and sights and sampling delicious local products

Murlo is situated 25 km south of Siena at an altitude of 300 m, 10 km above the ancient Roman Cassia road which links Florence to Rome. It overlooks the Crete Hills dotted with Cyprus trees, olive groves, vineyards and fields of wheat and sunflowers to one side and endless uncontaminated forest to the other. The famous hill towns of the Val d'Orcia - Montalcino, Montepulciano, Pienza etc - are just a short drive away, and both the centre of Florence and the coast can be reached in less than 1h 30m. The beautiful 14th-century Benedictine abbey of Monte Oliveto is a short way up the hill from the lovely old market town of Buonconvento on the Cassia. Murlo boasts world-famous Etruscan museum housing finds from a local site and is within easy reach of many of the main archaeological areas and museums of this fascinating pre-Roman culture. The small town of Vescovado is 1 km away and has all the basic amenities: food shops, newsagent's, pharmacy, bank, post office, doctor's surgery.

Additional information about rental rates

  • ·The booking must be confirmed by a partial payment of 30% of the complete rental, to be received by the owner in the 15 days following the initial firm booking request, otherwise the owner reserves the right to rent the accommodation to another guest. In case of cancellation, this 30% payment is not refundable.
    A 50 euros refundable deposit will be taken on arrival to cover any possible damage or loss of house contents.
    A 30 euro charge is made for final cleaning
    Accepted payments: Cash, bank transfer
    Notes: Guests should arrive after 3 pm and leave before 9 am on the day of departure. Exceptions can be made in agreement with the owner.
    Rates are inclusive of gas, electricity and a weekly change of linen, plus a supply of basic groceries and local products.
    Central heating charge: 10 euros a day, to be settled on departure.
