On the antique 'Roman wine street', distances were measured in miles. However, this was not based on the Roman mile as a unit, but rather the Celtic Leuge and that was 2.2 kilometres. Thus, it is easy to calculate that about 20 km from Trier is the tenth mile point, in Latin 'ad decimum lapidem', which is where Detzem came from for short. Around the historical house, a former guesthouse from the 19th century, the Detzemer Riesling Festival occurs annually on the first weekend in August (with public wine tasting). Since the canalization of the Mosel, Detzem has been located on the second Mosel barrage on German grounds. The construction of the 10th milestone can be found in the city centre. An attractive destination for a small hike is the 'five lake view' with a 30 m high view tower where you can see 5 parts of the Mosel. The Detzemer vineyards are called Maximiner Klosterlay and Würzgarten.
