Maio Island: the lonely, secluded island is located between Santiago and Boa Vista and is also illustrated in travelling books as the lonely, original and peaceful island in the Archipelago. Here you will experience village life in a special way (for example in Villa do Maio). Goats, chicken, pigs or cows cross the wide, cobblestone 'Avenida' in complete tranquillity. Only off and on will a car go through the quietness of the city. Around the island you will find stunning, large sand beaches, salt meadows and even a desert. All villages have electricity and all cities can be reached easily through the cobblestone street network. In Vila do Maio, the typical colonial architecture dominates the city with its beautiful pastel colours. Tourism leads to a lot of construction. There is a modern harbour, a new bank and a new hospital that is being built.

Arrival: Arrival/departure/on the way: airplane: flights starting at Zurich/Basel (from Germany - Frankfurt, Munich, etc.) to and from Praia on Santiago occur 5x a week. There are also connections to all other islands via Santiago. To Maio there is a domestic flight from the federal airline TACV every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. You can get to the city via the Aluguer (taxi bus). The main city Vila do Maio is 2 km from the airport. Ship: On Monday, Thursday and Saturday there is a connection from Praia to Maio and back. The departure time in Praia is usually at 7:00 in the morning. Even though it is reliable, it never hurts to make inquiries by Arca Verde.

On the go on the island: On the go on the island: Alguer goes between Vila do Maio and Morrinho, as well as the track to Alcatraz. Of course, the frequency of rides is based on the needs of the residents. You can rent a car. To discover the island, you can also rent bikes. This rental can be done at the Hamburg Bar in the centre. Telephone 002382551043. You can also book island trips with Zé Pedro, the owner of the Hamburg-Bar (speaks very good German).
