High standard of home comfort, quiet residential area, vast garden, nice neighbours, only few minutes away from the City-West. These elements make of Westend one of the preferred districts of Berlin. Westend was originally designed as a mansion colony. Many streets still resemble to the noble model of London. Even young people succumb to this charm. The creation of Westend mansion colony, which is now the core, started in 1866, with the square Branitzer Platz in the centre. What Westend inhabitants especially praise is the location of their 'Kiez' (community). Being close to the Grunewald (greenwood), you can reach Kurfürstendamm within a 5-minute drive or by bus (line 104). The underground (Neu-Westend or Theodor-Heuss-Platz station) offers an easy access to the centre. According to the actress Dagmar Biener, who recently played in 'Jedermann', Westend is one of the most beautiful residential areas in Berlin. Max Schmeling, Heinz Rühmann & Hindemith all moved in charming Westend.
Highlights of the surroundings:
Olympiastadion: a 4-year long rebuilding. Matter of expense: € 240 millions. The capital has invested a lot for its new Olympiastadion. And it was worth it. 75,000 people attended the 4 early round matches, the quarter-final and the final of the FIFA World Cup 2006, turning it into an unforgettable event. The Olympiastadion, built up in 1936 for the Olympic Games, was not transformed into a simple football stadium. Its impressive character was proved during many finals of the DFB-Pokal (German Football-Federation Cup) and international matches. You can take the underground at the station Theodor-Heuss-Platz directly from the house or get there on foot (about 20 minutes).
Other highlights in the surrounding area:
If stores are often similar on commercial streets, individuality and owner-operated retail shops dominate in Westend, especially in the large, unique Reichsstraße boulevard. There you will find everything you need for everyday life, only a short walk away from the holiday house.
Italy, China, Indonesia, India, Germany: international gastronomy is also well-established in Westend. Restaurants on the Reichsstraße promenade and around the square Theodor-Heuss-Platz are as exquisite as Westend. At the beginning of this promenade you can enjoy the excellent Italian cuisine and on the square Steubenplatz you will find the eldest bar in Westend (Westendklause). The cafe located in Georg-Kolbe-Museum is a real treasure. On the Kaiserdamm Boulevard guests will be pampered by Egyptian, Thai, Spanish and Italian cuisine. The restaurant located on the radio tower, with timber panel dating back to the 30's, is worth a visit for the stunning view it offers.
