The area:
Chalet Claire is situated in the small village of Les Masses, just above the village of Heremence, in the beautiful Val d'Herens. Les Masses is a 15 minute drive from Sion in the Rhone Valley, less than 2 hours from Geneva airport. The chalet is very accessible and is an ideal base for an activity holiday or for just relaxing and enjoying the beautiful scenery. The area is typically Swiss with chalets, mountain meadows, cows with bells around their necks, window boxes filled with flowers in the summer and in some of the villages in the valley the women still wear their traditional costumes.
Summer and autumn activities:
The area around the chalet is beautiful at all times of the year. The winter speaks for itself with its long ski season. The region is famous locally for it's wine making and as you drive along the Rhone Valley you will pass fields of vines hence the summer is often very hot in the valley, with a Mediterranean climate, but slightly cooler up the mountain. There are fantastic walks around the chalet for all abilities and tastes, from high mountain hiking to gentle flat strolls along the manmade irrigation channels called 'bisses' of which many are hundreds of years old. Other activities include mountain biking, swimming, golf, horse riding, bathing and water sports on the man made lakes in the valley. Rafting on the Rhone, high ropes, tennis, a children adventure park and visit a lake under the mountain accessible only by boat. You can also visit the historic towns of Sion and Martigny and even take a day trip to Zermatt at the foot of the famous Matterhorn.
Chalet Claire is strictly non smoking, regrettably no pets allowed.

There is a heated lock up cabin at the bottom of the lift where you can leave your skis and boots overnight. There is ski and snowboard school for all abilities which you can get to via the lift system or is a 5-10 minute drive away. The ski school can cater for French, German and English speakers.
