Westpunt Curacao is at the end of the island, out in the country. Here are some of the best beaches and dive sites in the Caribbean. We have dive lockers & a rinse tank, kayaks, mountain bikes & snorkel gear but most of all the knowledge of the island & the willingness to accompany you on a hike, dive, mountain bike ride, or kayak excursion. There are 3 beaches within a half mile from the house as well as a full service dive shop - Ocean Encounters West. On the weekends we serve lunch and dinner on the terrace but can assist you with other meals or recommend where to dine around the island. We have recently moved here from the states and have brought all of our belongings with us. The apartment is decorated in our unique eclectic style and the kitchenette is fully socked with a variety of glassware and kitchenware. If there is something you need that is not upstairs, the chances are we have it in storage. We have a TV, VCR, DVD player, wireless Internet, & a variety of books & games

Within 20 miles there are more than a dozen beaches including Playas Knip, Porto Marie, Cas Abou & next to us Kalki, Forti & Grandi. The city of Willemstad is a 40 minute drive away. Here you will find Hato Caves, an Aloe & an Ostrich Farm, the Sea Aquarium, the oldest Synagogue in use in the Caribbean, Casinos, shopping, & the Emma floating bridge in & around a Dutch influenced town. You can ride an ostrich or ATV, swim with the dolphins or sting rays, scuba, snorkel, bike, hike, golf, eat, shop or sit back with a book, relax & do nothing. The temperatures are constantly between 84 & 89 degrees with a cool ocean breeze. The island is located out of the hurricane belt so feel free to come anytime.   • The 3 bedrooms have air conditioning. There are 7 available beds, but it depends on if you come with adults only or with children. We think 8 adults may be crowded. The most guests that we have had at a time were 3 couples and a child (7 people). This seemed to work out all right. There is only one bathroom in the apartment.

Notes: We have a cell phone that you can rent and phone cards to purchase so you can call internationally for a reasonable cost. If you do not rent a vehicle, we can pick you up at the airport. We can also go to the grocery store so you'll have some food and beverages in the fridge when you arrive. Being active people; we like to bike, dive and kayak, we like our life in Westpunt and think you will as well. If you are an active traveller, especially divers you'll want to be at the West end of Curacao for your vacation and spend a day or two in town. We have enjoyed visiting with our guests and would love to spend time with you as well.

Dive into Paradise: Leading Dive publications list Curacao among the top 3 shore diving destinations. The visibility can reach over 100 feet with a variety of coral and fish species and water temperatures in the 80s. Snorkelers enjoy themselves as well. There are over 36 beaches; some picture perfect. Locally there is a guide with a boat who will take you out snorkeling, fishing or water skiing as this section of the island boasts flat water for such sports. Windsurfing is possible on the other side of the island. At the Sea Aquarium there are programs to swim or dive with the dolphins or rays. At most beaches there is a dive shop on site for rental gear and air.

Biking Possibilities: In 2006 the World Cup Mountain Bike Races were held in Curacao. You can bike that trail, from the airport to Westpunt, or around Mount Christoffel to the sea. Every year in November there is the Amstel Road Race. Monthly the local clubs sponsor guided rides as well as full moon excursions. There are ATV tours at both ends of the island, a good way to see the sites not easily accessible by car.

Tourist activities: Visit the Hato Caves, The Aloe Farm or ride an ostrich and stay for dinner at Zambini. Tour a number of museums such as the Postal, Maritime, or Slave Museum in town. Enjoy a variety of restaurants with food from around the world or sit, enjoy a drink and watch the floating bridge open and close for boat traffic and marvel at the size of the bridge going over the bay. If shopping is your thing, you could spend a week touring the shops around the island.

Golf: There is a golf course located on the cliffs above the sea, challenging yet breath taking.

Wir waren mit 6 Pers. (4 Erw., 2 Kindern ) im April 2009 dort.Das Haus liegt ganz im Nordwesten der Insel in Westpunt.Wir hatten einen Mietwagen direkt am Flughafen gebucht.Daher war es sehr einfach dorthin zu kommen.Bus oder Kleinbus bzw. Taxi wär sicher auch kein Problem.Aber ein Mietwagen ist schon sehr sinnvoll.Es sind ca. 40 km vom Flughafen.Die Vermieter senden alle erforderlichen Infos per mail zu.Sie sind US Amerikaner und sprechen nur Englisch.Die riesige Wohnung liegt im Obergeschoss des Hauses an der Klippenkante und hat von der Veranda aus einen tollen Blick auf das Meer - nicht " Blick auf Hügel " wie in der Wohnungsüberschrift vermerkt.Das in der Anzeige hinterlegte Bild ist etwas ungünstig; das Haus ist real schöner.Zum nächsten Strand gehts einfach über einen kleinen Pfad nach unten und in 3 Minuten ist man im glasklaren Wasser.6 Personen können bequem untergebracht werden und eigentlich sogar noch 2 - 3 personen mehr. Bettwäsche,Dusch- und Badetücher sind vorhanden.Alles wurde nach einer Woche gewechselt und geputzt.
Insgesamt war alles in einem sauberen Zustand.Es gibt viele englischsprachige Bücher und auch etliche Spiele.Die Küche ist eine Küchenzeile die zum Wohnzimmer gehört und hat einfache Strom-Kochplatten.So richtig doll kochen wie ein ambitionierter Freizeitkoch kann man nicht - dafür reicht u.a. das Stromnetz nicht aus - aber am Wochende verwandeln die Vermieter ihre Terrasse in ein Restaurant.Es gibt leckere Pizza und gegrillten Fisch und Fleisch und viel mehr.Alles nicht teuer. Keine Angst:die Gäste sind meist so gegen 10.00 Uhr wieder verschwunden.Fussläufig gibt es auch ein einheimisches Restaurant (Jaantschie) und eine Art China Imbiss. Knapp ein Kilometer die Küstenstasse entlang gibt es auch zwei einfache Restaurants und noch einmal 500m weiter eine etwas besssere Lokalität.
Die Vermieter sind sehr besorgt, geben viele Tips, verleihen auch Farräder,Schnorchelzeug und bringen aus dem Supermarkt was mit. Es ist schon fast familiär.Der vorgelagerte "Hausstrand" ist etwas steinig wird aber gerne von den Einheimischen besucht.Auch Fischer gibt es dort; der nächste Sandstand ist 600m die Strasse lang. Dort gibt es eine Tauchschule.Fährt man die Küstenstrasse entlang, so finden sich auf den nächsten 10 km 5 weitere schöne Strände.Zum Schnorchel o. tauchen ein Paradies.Zum Nationalpark sind es 15 Min; nach Willemstad ca. 40 Min.Der nächste brauchbare Supermarkt befindet sich im 20 Min. entferten Barber. Fazit: Empfehlenswert
