To the pope/art/culture city of Avignon, you can drive 1 hour, the metropolises from the antique times of Orange, Arles and Nimes are not far from there. On the way to Camargue you will find the Roman settlement 'Glanum' or the medieval Les Baux. The valley of calavon is strewn with popular villages like Gordes (Vasarely museum), Isle sur la Sorgue (antiques), Lacoste (castle of Marquis de Sade), Roussillon (ochre mining) and a lot more. An excursion to the south of Luberon to Lourmarin, to the lake 'Etang de la Bonde', to Aix en Provence or Marseilles are all worthwhile. The lonely landscapes and village of the Haute province are waiting to be discovered. Swim in 'Lac Esparron' or by Manosque in 'Les Vannades'. To the sea to Cassis or to the long beaches of St. Maries de la mer (Camargue), you only drive one and half to two hours. During the evening, after such a half day or full day excursion, you can enjoy the tranquillity and seclusion of the Provencal village.
