'Elsässerdütsch' (Alsatian German) is still spoken here and we write WELCOME in big letters. Larger families will enjoy countryside holidays in this accommodation at a very attractive price, amidst a typical farmer’s garden with seating and grill. Come and holiday in a Vosges valley, often called ‘Alsatian Switzerland'. Lots of sign-posted pathways to Himbeerfels, Backofenfels, Schneeberg (960m) mountains start right in front of your door. 'Burg Nideck im Elsass der Sage wohl bekannt' is a ballad by A. von Chamisso about this region, and Nideck castle and its splendid waterfall are right beside us. Lots of good, inexpensive restaurants offer the famous Alsatian cuisine. If you like food, our hostess Odile will be happy to show you the local secrets and she won’t mind you looking over her shoulder. It’s her hobby and profession and she’ll be happy to share it with you.

Wangenbourg-Engenthal is in the largest stretch of woods of the whole of the Vosges. Many excursions start here, to the European town of Strasbourg, the rose town of Saverne, the Alsatian wine road and Riquewihr village or the museum town of Colmar. It’s not even far to the Europa park in Rust. Hochkönigs castle, rebuilt by Kaiser Wilhelm (2008 is its 100-year jubilee) includes a splendid view. On the way there the children will love the famous monkey mountain with more than 500 Berber monkeys roaming freely, and the impressive eagle park. Don’t forget Alsatia’s holy mountain, Mont Saint Odile, with an enchanting view as far as the Black Forest. And it’s a walker’s paradise along the 10 km moorland. In July/August you’ll see bilberries, in autumn masses of mushrooms, a real touch of nature.
