In midst the historical centre of Gagliano you’re opening the entrance door from the street. A stairwell is bringing you up to the first floor, where you find the little gently renovated flat of 40 sqm with a terrace, tall rooms with cross-ceilings and historical mosaic floors. From the kitchen you reach the flat roof, where you have an incredible panoramic view: overlooking the houses and the countryside with olive trees to the sea... When the weather is clear you catch even sight of the albanian and greek shoreline whereas you are shielded in the back by the buildings of the historical centre leading up to the church. Directly from the house you reach a natural footpath which guides you down to the seaside, passing through a wonderful ravine with olive- and fig trees, capers and Trullis – the little, round stone houses, which are typically for this region - a 15 minutes walk to the protected gulf named Ciolo.

Gagliano del Capo

Casa Franca is next to the ancient church and piazza, a pleasant longitudinal square flanked by statues, coffee bars and shops for everyday-life. On saturdays there is also a characteristic market in Gagliano and the quiet place is turning to be very bustle and busy.

Barocco Leccese

Like all the other historical places of the Salento (province of Lecce) also Gagliano is built of warm tuff, a material which creates a special flair. Fascinating is also the barocco leccese, a local baroque stile which culminates in the facades of the churches of Lecce.

The Salento is the most southern province of Apulia, an area between two seas, the Ionion and Adriatic with beautiful coasts, still existing greekophone enclaves, adorable and gentle people, interesting historical places, impressing estates (masserie).
