The tranquil, picturesque, unspoilt village of Gamblesby is hidden away beneath the fells of the North Pennines just one mile away from the scenic A686, which links Penrith to Northumberland via Alston, England's highest market town. From Melmerby, where you leave the main road to come to Gamblesby, the road climbs dramatically up the fell to Hartside viewpoint 1903 feet above sea level with spectacular views over the Eden Valley to the mountains of the Lake District National Park and even southern Scotland. Gamblesby itself is in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which ensures that the village, with its tinkling streams, wide village greens and wealth of red sandstone buildings, will be protected log after it has finally been discovered.

Gamblesby - a peaceful village: Holiday Cottages in Cumbria's Eden Valley Stay in one of our lovely self catering holiday cottages in the village of Gamblesby in Cumbria. Gamblesby is a tranquil, picturesque, unspoilt village located in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Beauty yet still near the edge of the Lake District National Park. Just one mile away from the scenic A686, which links Penrith to Northumberland via Alston, England's highest market town. From Melmerby, where you leave the main road to come to Gamblesby, the road climbs dramatically up the fell to Hartside viewpoint 1903 feet above sea level. The views here are spectacular, taking in the Eden Valley to the mountains of the Lake District and even southern Scotland. All our guests have shared use of the courtyard and front garden which has tables/benches and a barbeque. Off-road parking for 1 car. Storage for bicycles. One quiet, well-behaved dog welcome free of charge.

Kleinod zwischen Pennines und Lake District

Mark's freundliche Art versprach schon im Vorfeld Gutes. Unsere Erwartungen wurden übertroffen. Helm Cottage ist sehr geschmackvoll und "artgerecht" restauriert. Es ist blitzsauber und sehr gut ausgestattet. Wir hätten lieber eine Waschmaschine als eine Spülmaschine gehabt. Lieblingsplatz: großer bequemer Sessel im Schlafzimmer bei Sonnenaufgang! Allerdings fehlt ein zweiter Sessel. Vorschlag: kleinerer Esstisch links von der Haustür, dafür kleine Sitzecke rechts vor der Haustür.
Die Pennines sind unerwartet schön, das Lake Disrict gut zu erreichen und ebenfalls einmalig.Eine Woche hat nicht gereicht für alles Sehenswerte. Das Wetter war allerdings sehr gut!
Mark und Pat sind extrem freundlich und zuvorkommend.
Schade, daß die Autos vorm Haus parken.Wäre schöner, wenn's autofrei wäre.

Owner's Response: Helm Cottage wurde 2005 aus Teil der ehemaligen Scheune restauriert. Da das Nachbarhaus "The Barn" schon 10 Jahre vorher restauriert wurde, mußten wir aus dem restlichen Platz für Helm Cottage das Beste machen. Die gemütliche Sitzecke ist klein; dagegen ist das Doppelbett extra groß (king size) und das alles war eigentlich eher für jüngere Leute gedacht.
Herdwick Cottage und Hawthorn Cottage haben viel mehr Platz zum sitzen. Für unsere ausländische Gäste in den kleineren Häusern bieten wir einen kostenlosen Waschservice an.
