The small village of Saumane de Vaucluse lies above the Sorgue valley. Far away from mass tourism, one can enjoy peace and tranquillity overlooking the valley with its olive trees and scented herbs. Small, interesting streets, pretty stone houses in the regional style, fountains, Provencal church towers and the fortress from the 12th century give Saumane its character. Don’t miss a visit to the nearby town of L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (approx. 7km), which is known as “southern Venice” due to its numerous canals. The town is the stronghold of antique lovers: collectors, dealers and tourists come here to search for unusual art works, old collector’s pieces, decorative items or simple bric-a-brac. Also recommendable are trips to Fontaine-de-Vaucluse (approx. 5km), Gordes (approx. 20km) and Roussillon (approx. 30km).
