Arbatax: the former fishing village is one of the best known spots on the Ogliastra coast. Arbatax itself offers some of Sardinia’s famous sights: the red rocks (impressive porphyritic granite cliffs) as well as a Spanish
watchtower which gave the village its exotic sounding name from the arabic 'Arba at Ashar' meaning “fourteenth tower”. The coast is permanently changing between rocky cliffs, clefts, bays with snow white pebbles and beaches of fine sand which stretch from Cala Sisine to Santa Maria Navarrese. To the south the coastline becomes flatter and sandier with the red porphyritic rocks between.
From the harbours of Arbatax and Santa Maria Navarrese boats depart every day to bring visitors to the many bays, returning in the afternoon.
