Kronberg holiday apartment: Kronberg im Taunus

We're a Swedish family with two small kids who spent a week in this Kronberg apartment. It was exactly what we hoped for and more. We got a nice place with lots of space in a calm area where we could rest between our day trips.

Communications are perfect with the autobahn in five minutes and you can quickly start eating miles going north, south or west. With Frankfurt (F) to the east, getting there is easy, but passing it can be worse if you don't know how - and we certainly didn't. We tried to get to Gelnhausen (a well preserved small town east of F) by the autobahn north of F but the autobahn just vanished and there were no signs despite the same autobahn "continued" east of F. Next time I'll pass south of F despite it being a slightly longer route.

Anyway, we got an apartment with a lot of light and great privacy (looking out from the balcony, you see the garden, a field, some distant houses and the skyline of Frankfurt. If you like it in daylight you'd love it in the night.

We got a Getränkemarkt and a bakery around the corner and although we most often drove to the supermarket, we went there as well when we knew we wouldn't buy so much.

We had plenty of space in the living room which probably felt bigger than it actually was due to height of the ceiling in the middle of the room, the huge windows and the fact that the house is located on a hill. The social parts of the apartment (kitchen, living room and entrance) are integrated in one unit. The two bedrooms had plenty of space for the four of us and were not much affected by the sun. The bathroom probably was the best the best part of the apartment. Unfortunately, we had little space when changing diapers, but the rest of the bathroom made up for that and more. It's modern with a complex shower system that took some minutes to master.

The landlady was helpful both before and during our stay.

For fellow tourist families with small kids, we'd recommend Taunus Wonderland and Opel Zoo.

When coming back from a long day and sunny weather, we just opened up the doors to the balcony and the windows in the other end of the house and the temperature dropped quickly.

We would recommend the apartment for anyone who needs quick access to Frankfurt or likes to explore its surroundings, especially if you're looking for a neighborhood where you feel safe and without much noise and no passing traffic (the house is located in the end of a cul-de-sac road).
