Prickly pears, pistachios and pomegrante trees :
Mt. Etna is an ideal target for trekking and exploring extensive hiking routes on the 'mountain of mountains'. The small towns around Mt. Etna beckon visitors with their many buildings built during the Baroque era. You can have some original Sicilian experiences while enjoying delicious specialties created from pistachios and almonds, such as pasta with pistachio pesto, or a real treat of 'granita' ices made with fresh fruits from Mt. Etna. When driving south along the coast you will encounter the islets of the Cyclops. According to legend the cliffs of the fishing village of Aci Trezza, were formed thanks to the disappointed love of Polyphemus and his anger at Odysseus. The vibrant city of Catania offers its visitors a beautiful old town and one of the best fish markets of Sicily. The south coast awaits you with a rich Sicilian baroque past and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
