The Moorish farm "Oloron" forms the origins of the current city of Alaró. The first document in which the city was mentioned by name comes from the 13th century as the Christians re-conquered Majorca. Alaros Castle was originally a fundamental building. During the Catalan invasion into the Majorcan empire, the castle was successfully defended. As the Catalan invaders captured the leaders of the resistance Guillem Gabrit and Guillem Bassa, who were sentenced to death through burning. The Catalan king Alfonso ordered this, because they did not see him as king. Alaró was the first part of land with electricity on the island of Majorca. This occurred on August 15th, 1901. The castle of Alaró can still be visited today. Around Alaró you will find a large Mediterranean pine forest with large fields. On the fields you will find olive, almond and fig trees.
