Our house is in a gorgeous location: close to the ocean and between the hills. It is only about 1km to the beach. There are various places to shop and restaurants in the small, cosy village of Rodalquilar. The village was built in a former volcano crater and opens up all the way around to the ocean. In 1987 the area was declared a nature reserve and in 1997, UNESCO declared it a biosphere reserve. It appears to be the last remaining untouched area on the Mediterranean coast, because there are still numerous rare plants here and this protected area has become a cult site of the European Fauna. The botanical garden, the remains of mining (gold and precious gem mining) and the emblematic beach 'El Playazo' are the main places of interest in Rodalquilar. It is about 40 km to Almería and the nearest airport is about 35 km away.
