In the western central-valley, only 30 minutes from the international airport of
San Jose, you find the pictorial city of Atenas with clean air and one of the world-best climats - according to a study of the NASA. In Atenas you find restaurants with local and international cuisine, supermarkets, banks with cashpoints, bus terminals for local and remote busses, many shops and a friendly, open-minded population - including many immigrants from europe and the united states.
For tourists Atenas is a very good opportunity for a stop on their way to the pacific-coast and above all an exellent alternative to San Jose and Alajuela as a starting basis for excursions in all parts of the country.
