The holiday home, formerly a rural mansion, was built in 1780 in the typical construction style for the Charente. It is located in the old district of Les Mathes-La Palmyre, a resort without high-rises on the Arvert peninsula, an expansive nature protection area with pine forests and a 20km long beach (Cote Sauvage). To the side of the house and behind it you will find a 1000m² enclosed garden with a large terrace for sunbathing and you can unwind here. You can eat outside during the winter with the sunshine. The location is peaceful and yet central, bistro, market, bakery, butcher, etc. you will find a few minutes that can be reached on foot. The right wing of the house is restored and has a spacious living space of about 140m² on 2 floors with tasteful furnishing. The guest has a well-equipped kitchen and all amenities for a relaxing holiday. Enclosed parking space.

The coastal region of the Saintonge is one of the oldest cultural regions in France and thanks to its protected bay location, it has a comfortable mild climate with a lot of sunny days, even during the winter. The coast is still primarily determined by the natural beauties: in the northern part of the peninsula of the 20km long Cote Sauvage, natural protection region with old pine forests; in the south you will find smaller cliff bays with shallow beaches. In addition to constructions from the Roman time, you will find "the" area for Roman churches in France. (Pilgrimage path to Santiago de Compostela). Attractive destinations for a day excursion: Bordeaux, La Rochelle, the nearby vineyard of Médoc, Cognac, the Ile d'Oléron, the most beautiful zoo in Europe in La Palmyre, an 18 hole golf course 6km away. In the nearby La Tremblade, original market squares, you can watch fishers and people raising oysters. The region offers culinary delights like fish, crustaceans and oysters.

Schon die Anreise nach Les Mathes ist ein Vergnügen. Man fährt durch die schönsten und interessantesten Gegenden Frankreichs. (Zwischenstation) Das 200 Jahre alte Haus hat großen Charme und ist mit viel Liebe zum Detail eingerichtet, größtenteils mit alten Möbeln. Wir haben besonders die Abende vorm dem Kaminofen bei einem Glas Rotwein sehr genossen. Das Kochen in der gut eingerichteten Küche hat viel Spaß gemacht und das Einkaufen der köstlichen Zutaten auf den Märkten in der Umgebung. Auf der wunderschönen Terrasse konnten wir sogar dreimal unser Mittagessen unter der Pinie einnehmen. Wir fühlten uns wie Gott in Frankreich!
In den nahegelegenen Pinienwäldern haben wir ausgedehnte Spaziergänge unternommen und abends an den herrlichen Stränden den Sonnenuntergang bewundert. Ein sehr erholsame Woche, und wir kommen gerne wieder!
