Montalto is a beautiful medieval village picturesque set on a hill with panoramic views to the vallez and the surrounding hills. A good restaurant with terrace serving fish, typical ligurian dishes and pizza, a cozy bar with a small terrace and regular live music and a little shop add to the attraction of the village. More restaurants and shops can be found in Badalucco just 5 min. away. River baths and rock pools can reached in 10 min. walk, the beaches of the Riviera are only 20 min. away by car.

Montalto sits majestically high above the Argentina Valley, as though enthroned in an eagle’s nest, and seems almost to look down mockingly upon those below it. The small, cozy Montalto, a truly medieval borgo, looks almost like a film set with its narrow lanes, its tunnel-like alleyways, and its small, hidden little squares full of flowers and wild rosemary. An incredible view over the Argentina River flowing far below in the valley and the surrounding mountains to the French Maritime Alps is a fitting reward for anyone who makes it up to the town. The annual summer opera festivals and classical concerts – usually situated under the covered walkways around the Piazza della Chiesa – are famous far beyond the borders of Liguria itself.
