Golf and other Sports/Activities:
Phuket offers the keen golfer an enticing choice of 7 internationally renowned 18-hole golf courses, including Blue Canyon and Phuket Country Clubs, and Banyan Tree and Loch Palm Golf Clubs. All these clubs are within about 20 minutes driving of Surin Springs. The management company for Surin Springs (where the apartment is located) can arrange for bookings to be made at any golf club at special rates. Green fees in Thailand are extremely reasonable by European standards. Clubs may be hired. Caddies available.
Other sports and activities available include canoeing (you MUST take John Grey's ecological day tour to visit the amazing 'hongs' of Phang-Nga Bay!), trekking, elephant trekking, diving, game fishing and horse riding, go-karting, bungy-jumpying, parasailing, wind surfing, plus, of course, boating (see below).
The apartment is only about 3 km away from the world class Fantasea Show Spectacular venue in Kamala. Well worth a visit!
Boating:
Phuket and the Phang-Nga Bay area boast some of the most dramatic seascape scenery in the world and both power and sailing boats can be hired (with crew or bareboat). Marinas and the spectacular karst scenery of Phang-Nga Bay are on the eastern side of the island, about 30 minutes drive away. Please be aware that there are strong seas running from May through early October and that only experienced sailors should consider bareboat rentals during that time. You can also charter boats by the half day, day or longer periods and there is a wide choice of craft available.
Safety from natural disasters:
Surin Beach area was one of the few beach locations on the west coast of Phuket that escaped damage from the tsunami at the end of 2004. Surin Beach Estate is located just inland from the shoreline on a rise of land, so it enjoys double protection. In fact, the tsunami, while creating much devastation at the time, has also restored many of Phuket's beaches to their former pristine beauty. Properties around the island have now been completely restored and there are now few traces of the damage caused. In addition, an early warning system has already been developed and installed in Phuket, as part of a region wide project under the aegis of the UN. It will link into the system designed to cover the Indian Ocean and will also link to the Tsunami Warning System already in operation for a number of years in the Pacific (TWSP).
