The village Makrilia can be reached within ca. 2-3 minutes walk by feet, where the Greek way of living and the famous Greek hospitality still exist at its best. The village is a typical Cretan village with almost no tourists and one of the few places that has preserved its originality. It’s geographical position allows you to visit both sides of the island in less than ½ hour by car: About 10-15 minutes southwards to Ierapetra (Lybian sea side) or ca. 20 minutes northwards to Paxia Amo, Istron etc. (Aegean sea side). Alternatively, a short drive takes you to the surrounding mountain villages such as Kalamafka, Messeleri, Prino etc., where nice little taverns offer delicious local drinks and delicacies.
Ample shopping possibilities are given down-town in Ierapetra.
