Nézignan l’Evêque was in the possession of the bishops of Agde for 800 years and lies on a hill that gives it its typical provincial character. The around 600 year old, fully restored house complex is situated in the quiet, listed heart of the village that is one of the rare villages built in the spiral method - so-called 'en circulade' - of the Middle Ages to defend itself better. The sunny village, surrounded by vineyards, has its own bakery, post office, bar, good restaurant and small grocer.
Only 3km away is the wonderful little town of Pézenas with its historic old town, restaurants, antique shops, weekly market and good shopping. The closest beaches are only 15km away; other long, attractive sandy beaches are between Agde and Sète as well as in the direction Narbonne - all three places well worth a visit. Inland is a wildly romantic area with canyons, caves, Lake Salagou with sailing and beautiful hiking trails in a rocky Mediterranean landscape.
