Locarno is a city for connoisseurs. Walk through the small alleys of the old city, be amazed by the colourful flowers in the parks and watch the people on the lively Piazza Grande with a cappuccino. During the summer, a lot of people meet on the Piazza Grande for open air concerts or during the famous international film festival in August, the square attracts thousands of visitors. The Piazza Grande, the heart of the city of Locarno, is surrounded by elegant house facades, trees and street cafes. The famous pilgrimage church Madonna del Sasso thrones the city. You will have a fantastic view of the city, the lake and the mountains in the background. On the Cardada-Cimetta mountain you will find a cable train. During the summer, a meeting spot for paragliders and during the winter, you can go skiing and sledding. The powerful Castello Visconteo and the museum within the castle walls are particularly worth seeing.
