This attractive small barn was converted some years ago into a guest cottage. It's a haven of peace and tranquility set amongst the 40+ acres of olive groves, vineyard and woodland that belongs to the nearby traditional stone farmhouse where the owner lives. The open plan living /kitchen area is light and airy and opens up on to a large south facing terrace fringed by walnut trees and bamboo. Ideal for al fresco eating or just relaxing with beautiful views of the surrounding wooded hills. It's a private hideaway and yet very convenient and centrally placed for exploring Tuscany. Between May and end of September the 15 X 5 metre swimming pool in an adjacent olive grove is available for guests and sometimes shared with owner.

Situated on a small hill with a view of the Montagnola with its chestnut woods and holmoak trees this is indeed a paradise for people as well as a population of animals such as deer, wild boar and porcupines. Clouds of butterflies and birds from spring till late autumn hover by lavender, wild sage, rosemary and thyme. The other side of the these hills lies the historic city of Siena and driving over the hills to visit the city, rather than on the larger road, one's senses are filled with the rich earth colours and a myriad of rural features. The place is ideal for those who like to walk or cycle and special to those interested in birds. But it's very central position in relation to the historic and cultural centres such as Florence, Volterra and San Gimignano makes for a relaxing break of a different nature. If you like shopping whether it's designer fashion or browsing street markets, you don't have to travel far to indulge yourselves. A 45 min drive away are two thermal

Notes: Ideally 3 people would be comfortable here.. The bathroom is large and is accessed from both the bedroom and the living area where the day bed is. The 15X5metre swimming pool is open between May and the end of September and is freely available to guests. It is set in an adjacent olive grove and the views are truly splendid. There are two pergolas for shade and an assortment of pool side chairs and loungers. Children under the age of 15 are not allowed in the pool area unless accompanied by an adult. There is a table tennis table available to guests.

The health giving spas of Tuscany: Tuscany is dotted with natural hot water springs. Many have are health spas and the nearest one to the Bellaspetto cottage is just a 45 min drive away, South of Siena. Here you can indulge in a wide choice of massages and hydrotherapy or simply laze away the hours in one of the several open air pools where the water is 39C. A fantastic experience, especially in spring and autumn when the air temp is not very high but with even a small amount of sunshine one can be outdoors. In winter many people use the indoor pool. The place is very well equipped and is of luxury standard although entrance is well under twelve pounds per person. For this one can spend the whole day there. Reduced rates after 3 pm in the afternoons. Guided tours of wineries/wine tastings in the Chianti wine area can be arranged as well as short cooking courses, walking tours, beauty/health treatments e.g. massage by a highly qualified masseuse, pedicure and manicure

Delightful Getaway

I'm not sure which was warmer, the weather or Joan's welcome after our drive from Ireland. The 3 weeks the 2 of us spent in 'the pig house' were worth every kilometer.

With Siena to the east, Chiantishire to the north-east, San Gimigniano north, Montalcino south (all within reach) and many typical Tuscan hilltop villages nearby, the location is ideal. There are numerous, good and surprisingly close ristoranti but we probably enjoyed most a glass or two of Prosecco by the pool, enjoying views across the valley, followed by a barbecue on our private patio.

Joan was a most friendly hostess, keen to make sure we got the most from our stay and that we had all we needed. The property was certainly fully equipped and perfectly clean.

I have limited mobility; having everything on the one level, inside and out, made it an easy place to stay; the walk-in shower was particularly convenient.

My wife spent part of our holiday working on a thesis. The tranquil surroundings were perfect for writing, the only intruders being goldfinches, small green lizards and sometimes one of Joan's friendly cats.

This was our second visit to Localitá Bellaspetto, but is unlikely to be our last. But don't all rush - we want to be sure and find it available next time.

We have stayed several times in this property. It's a spacious, well-equipped house in one of the most beautiful locations I've ever come across in Tuscany - on top of the hill, with views across vineyards, olive groves and forestland from the terrace, plus a great swimming pool just next door. It's incredibly peaceful, and Joan - the owner - is friendly, helpful and easygoing. Halfway between Florence and Siena, it's ideally located for visiting the heartland of Tuscany, but frankly - once you're here - you might decide not to move at all! Strongly recommended.
