Built in 1996 in all-wood, this chalet lies at the foot of a beautiful piste and about 150 metres from the 6-man express lift up into the Portes du Soleil system. It is situated about 10 minutes' walk from the centre of Les Gets, a beautifully maintained old Savoyard village with a long tradition of skiing. Keen skiers can ski from the chalet to Switzerland and back in a day. The chalet has been substantially extended summer 2009 and now has 3 bedrooms with double beds (2 have e/s) and 2 bedrooms with 2 single beds. The living room is large with comfortable soft furniture at one end and an open fireplace, a large dining area in the centre and a brand new kitchen at the other end. The kitchen area is all built-in with all the equipment that any guest is likely to want and plenty of crockery, glasses and cutlery. The shower room downstairs has a washer/dryer. There is a large decked terrace, parking for 2 cars and storage for skis/boots.

The village of Les Gets dates back to the late 19th century. It began its history as a ski resort in the 1930s. Now it is one of the most popular resorts in Europe. It is wonderful in summer too. The local people love their village and this shows itself in the way they decorate it and care of it. All buildings are required to be in chalet-style which gives the village a unique charm. Les Gets lies at one end of the so-called 'Portes du Soleil system' which is a chain of villages linked by a ski-lift system that creates some 650 kilometres of pistes and stretches over to Switzerland via Morzine and Avoriaz. There is also a small ski resort at Praz de Lys, some 15 minutes away by car and the vaste ski area of Flaine can be reached by a 20 minute. Shops in Les Gets are a 10 minutes' walk from the chalet and there is a small supermarket about 6 mins' walk away. A free bus circulating round the village passes 150 mtrs from the chalet. The ESF and a very-well run creche are in the village.

Additional information about rental rates

  • (i) The rates include electricity (heating is all-electric) and logs.
  • (ii) The rates do not include cleaning. It is the guests' responsibility to leave the chalet in the condition in which they find it. This is normal in rented accommodation in the French Alpine resorts. However, we have secured the services of an excellent chalet management team who will provide end-of-stay cleaning, as well as bed linen and towel hire. This can all be arranged through the owners.
  • (iii) A damage/cleaning deposit of £450 is payable when the full payment is made and is returnable on departure, subject to any due deductions which the owners would expect to agree with the renters. The chalet is inspected by the caretaker on the day of departure and it is hoped that the guests would be present to discuss any possible deduction in advance. The owners very much hope that it will never be necessary to make any such deductions. None has been deducted so far.
    (iv) All prices are negotiable, particularly if more than 7 days are taken. The owner is prepared to let for less than 7 days at a price to be negotiated.
    (v) A non-refundable deposit of 25% is payable on booking. The balance is payable 6 weeks before the start date. (vi) Guests are encouraged to take out travel insurance in respect of any cancellation made after payment.

Notes: The chalet is semi-detached being the end of 3 formerly garage-linked chalets. In winter the chalet is predominantly suitable for skiers. As there are 2 downstairs bedrooms with en-suite bathroom or shower-room and a downstairs cloakroom and additional shower room, it is perfectly suitable for the elderly and the infirm. Whilst children are welcome, it is not possible to provide complete protection from the open fire (in common with most traditional chalets). The chalet is most likely to suit those who can already ski, as they would particularly benefit from the adjacent express 6-man ski lift and the immediate access to the piste and the whole Portes du Soleil ski system. One can ski 'in/out' without having to walk to the centre of the village or take the free bus. Hire of bed linen, towels and cots can be arranged. A high chair is provided. Minibus transfer between Geneva airport and the chalet can be arranged. Reduced price hire of skis and boots can be arranged.

Further information:: PLEASE NOTE: THE PHOTOS OF THE CHALET ARE AS IT IS/WAS DURING THE 2008/2009 WINTER SEASON. THE SUBSTANTIAL EXTENSION IS NOW COMPLETED. THE OWNERS ARE HAPPY TO E-MAIL FLOOR PLANS TO ENQUIRERS. EXTERNALLY THE APPEARANCE OF THE CHALET WILL NOT SEEM VERY DIFFERENT. IT WILL BE WIDER TO THE SIDE AND LONGER TO THE FRONT. NEW PHOTOS WILL BE AVAILABLE BY MID-NOVEMBER 2009. The owners are happy to discuss any aspect of the chalet and the area with enquirers and to provide any other information that may be needed.

Ski equipment storage and cars:: Ski equipment can be stored in the cupboard provided. The car port is big enough for an MPV with box. There is space for a second car outside the car port. In winter there is sufficient parking for only one more car outside the chalet and the carport due to the accumulation of snow therefore renters can only park 2 cars at the chalet. However there is additional unlimited car parking about 100 metres away from the chalet in a free public car park. It is advisable to have one set of snow chains in winter.

Smoking:: The chalet is let on a strictly 'no smoking' basis. The chalet is all wood and therefore vulnerable to fire. It is also impossible to remove the smell of cigarettes between guests. Guests can smoke outside but are asked to kindly not leave butts on the ground.
