Photos and Description of this Saint Exupery holiday house Holiday home in the Entre Deux Mers wine region, 30 miles from Bordeaux.

This traditional farmhouse has recently been restored and offers the visitor every comfort while retaining most of the original features such as stone and marble fireplaces, timbered ceilings and exposed stone walls. The hall opens onto a delightful lounge a large stone fireplace. A fully equipped kitchen is situated at the back of the house and opens onto a stone loggia (covered patio) which is equipped for outdoor dining. There are three spacious and light bedrooms, tastefully decorated and furnished in keeping with the style of the house. There is a full bathroom and a shower room - both with WC, and a utility room. The loggia opens onto a lovely 9 X 4 metre pool surrounded by timber decking and backed by vines. This charming self-catering holiday home is totally private and is set in 2000 sq metres of garden with fruit trees.

  • The three spacious bedrooms face south and all have beautiful views of the countryside. The master bedroom has a double bed and the other two have 2 or 3 singles in each. The original stuccoed chimney breasts and marble fireplaces are features of two of the bedrooms. All three are spacious and light and tastefully decorated.

Things to do :: La Girondine is situated in St Exupéry 35 miles south east of Bordeaux city in the wine area known as the 'Entre-Deux-Mers' so named because it lies between 2 wide rivers, the Dordogne to the north and the Garonne to the south. St Exupéry is 8 kms from the small bastide town, Sauveterre de Guyenne, which has all shops including a supermarket. St Exupéry is a quiet hamlet of 10 houses and a church. The area is ideal for cycling and hiking The old railway line between Sauveterre and Bordeaux now provides 55kms of idyllic, dedicated cycle track.A hiking trail (chemin de randonnée) opposite the house leads down to the Vignague river.

Places to visit within 30kms of La Girondine: The historic bastide towns of Sauveterre de Guyenne and St Macaire are only a short car journey away. Many historical buildings dot the area and are only a short drive from 'La Girondine'. St Exupéry's own Romanesque church is a listed building. Not to mention all the pretty villages tucked away among the vineyards. Many famous painters and writers lived locally and you can visit the châteaux of Montesquieu, Mauriac and Toulouse-Lautrec as well as renowned wine chateaux. There are many local attractions to entertain you and your family: Medieval villages and towns: St Emilion, La Réole, Bazas, etc and the colourful markets in Créon (Wed) and Cadillac (Sat). Many local 'châteaux' offer tasting of their wines - Graves, Cotes de Bordeaux & Entre Deux Mers

A little further afield .....: The railway station at La Reole (7 kms) provides easy access to Bordeaux. If you prefer to drive, Bordeaux is reachable by motorway from Langon (50 mins) or along the beautiful D10 road which follows the Garonne valley. Atlantic beaches and the bay of Arcachon are just over an hour’s drive away, with miles of sandy beaches. The sand dune at Le Pyla is the highest in Europe and is a great favourite with families.

Other Activities: The vineyards of St. Emilion (35 mins) & Sauternes (20 mins). The medieval towns of La Reole, Sauveterre, Monségur (15-20 mins). Numerous chateaux..

The perfect place for a perfect holiday!

The holiday home more than lived up to its description.
It is full of character; ideally situated, in that it is very private and so peaceful and yet with neighbouring houses close by it is not totally isolated. It has a fantastic view of the countryside. The house is very tastefully decorated and we just loved the garden, with its blend of cottage and mediterranean plants. Both house and garden are very spacious – lots of space for the kids to play around in, with interesting nooks and crannies to explore, while the adults relax by the pool…. No matter the weather, one can enjoy eating al fresco thanks to the covered patio. The owners had, very thoughtfully, supplied tourist information for the area and there are so many places of interest to visit without having to travel very far – and a wonderful choice too. All being well St Exupéry will see us back again!

The Great Holiday we had!

Me and my family really enjoyed the stay! It was one of the best holidays we have had together. The owners were very nice and helpful. The house is lovely and has great bedrooms with lots of space and very comfy beds. There is a barbecue makes really nice grilled food. The swimming pool there was great to jump in after the lovely warm weather that you get in the summer holidays. While we were there, we saw a few nests nearby which had some chicks in and we saw them being fed every day which was very intresting. We also saw some lizards and a stick-insect which i'd never seen before apart from in a zoo. The countryside around the house is quiet and empty which is great after being in a very busy city. We went to Bordeaux, Pauillac, Saint-Emillion and many other great places which was really fun especially as the drive was not too long.
