Grand Moulin Pomport is a beautiful country house full of character and charm, whilst offering every modern convenience you could wish for on holiday. Created for outdoor living, a hint of what is to come is given as you approach Grand Moulin by its own tree-lined avenue of some 400m past the vines. Flanked on either side and to the rear are meadows and woodland that completely encircle it, and are alive with deer, wild boar, hares, birds of prey and other wildlife. A large vine covered dining terrace opens from the kitchen with stunning views over towards the heated pool, a perfect place to enjoy long summer evenings and stunning sunsets. There are 7 bedrooms, many with en suites, a large living room, dining room, kitchen and mezzanine study area. Outdoors at Grand Moulin

This beautifully converted watermill is an absolute gem for outdoor living. Approached by a 400 metre driveway flanked by trees and its own vines, the grounds of Grand Moulin are out of this world! The stunning vine covered dining terrace opens from the kitchen with views over the gardens and pool. There is a large BBQ area set slightly higher than the terrace. The 10m x 5m pool is heated and ideal for toe-dippers with roman steps at the entrance. The pool has a stone surround and large lawned area where there are sun loungers, chairs and tables. It is completely sheltered and private – an awesome suntrap. The timbered pool house is set behind the pool in a stunning Perigourdine outbuilding with another loo and shower. The pool is alarmed for safety and complies with recent legislation. In the grounds there are stables for up to 5 horses, a children’s play area and extensive lawned areas for ball games. The varied walks through the grounds complete this perfect French hideaway!

Activities in the Area

The area is famous for its wine, with Monbazillac, Pecharment, St Emillion to name a few and is also considered to be the gastronomic centre of France. There are restaurants to cater for all tastes and budgets. If you prefer to cook for yourselves, the local markets offer wonderfully fresh local produce. They are fantastic for a morning out, experiencing the french way of life. The Dordogne is steeped in history. From the prehistoric caves at Lascaux to the medieval chateaux and fortified basted villages and towns. For those with more energy, the range of sports activities is great. There are a number of golf courses all within about 40 minutes drive. With the superb championship course at Chateau des Vigiers only a 15 minute drive away. The Dordogne and Vezere rivers offer canoeing, swimming or just lazing on one of the many beaches. There is fishing, horse riding, cycling, tennis all close by. There are lakes within 20 minutes drive, with sandy beaches, fishing and water sports.

How to get here

Grand Moulin is extremely accessible with Bergerac airport only 15 minutes drive away. There are daily low cost flights with Ryanair flying from Stansted, Nottingham and Liverpool and Flybe flying from Southampton, Bristol, Birmingham and Exeter. Bordeaux airport is only about 90 minutes drive away, with Toulouse slightly further taking about 2 hours. There is car hire available at all the airports. We find that the most relaxing drive from the UK is from St Malo in about 6 hours, leaving Portsmouth with Brittany Ferries and throughout the summer they are doing night crossings both ways. Although it is not the cheapest ferry, it is a great way to start the holiday. A slightly longer drive is from Calais in about 9 hours. There are fast links by train by Eurostar (Waterloo/Ashford) with connections to Bergerac, Marmande and Libourne. Marmande is the quickest and is only 30 minutes away. You can also motorail to Brive which is approximately 2 hours drive away.

Other Activities Canoeing, go-karting, wine tasting
