Located in Northern Portugal’s Douro Valley, Quinta da Figueira Velha (“Old Fig Tree Farm”) is a 48 acre private estate with superb river views. When it was bought by the Pires Lima family in the early 80’s it was so overgrown that it was only accessible by boat. One of the members of the family is the architect who designed the attractive properties dotted around the farm so that each house has privacy without being isolated. From 1983 to 89 this particular house was rebuilt from the ruins of the estate’s ancient manor house, using the region’s traditional granite stonework The property is 90km from the coast and Porto (with its town centre designated as a Unesco World Heritage Site). Inland, the towns of Régua and Pinhão, in the heart of the Port Wine Region, are less than an hour’s drive through the valley’s terraced vineyards You’ll enjoy total privacy in a very comfortable, spacious house (540 sq metres) with stunning river views in the peace and quiet of unspoilt countryside
