Visit Gascony in a house with character on the edge of Landaise forest. Spacious (350m2) and light, near the chateau de Poudenas and just a few miles from Nerac and Condom. This is an old, fortified country house, self-catering, fully restored. Comfort and aesthetics, sophisticated and charming, luxury which lends itself to rest and relaxation with family or friends all year round. Sleeps 12 people and price is all inclusive. Separate garden with a clear view of the landscape and the chateau, bordered by 25 acres of protected park where you can enjoy tennis or the swing seat. Private pool (11x5m), secure, salt treated (no chemicals). Pool house with WC, sink and canopy. A large patio with chairs and sun loungers where you can relax. The owners will welcome you personally with a visit to the chateau and an aperitif.

Half-way between Bordeaux and Toulouse, Pondenas is in the centre of the Albret district in Gascony, land of Armagnac and gastronomy, fortified towns and chateaux, and the Gascon people over whom the kings of France and England fought in the Hundred Years War. The region is served by a national train station in Agen (27 miles) and 5 airports (Agen 27 miles away - Bordeaux, Toulouse, Bergerac and Pau 78 miles away). Poudenas is a half an hour drive from 2 coasts and less than half an hour from the beaches by the Atlantic and the Pyrenees, which can be seen to the south on a clear day. In the middle ages this town was on the St. Jacques de Compostelle?9s pilgrimage trail (Vezelay stretch) and there are several walking routes to take you across the hills, woods and forests seeing the stags, roe and wild boar, or maybe just mushrooms in wood pigeon season. Lots to visit nearby inc. the beautiful Romieu church collegiate, a UNESCO world heritage site.

  • There are three large bathrooms for the suites and the double bedroom with bath, separate shower, sink and WC, lit by a skylight or small, round window. The bathroom on the ground floor has a shower equipped for disabled users. The two remaining bedrooms have en suites with a shower, sink and WC. The water is heated separately for all 5 bathrooms. There is also a WC + sink by the entrance, under the stairs on the ground floor of the house and also in the pool house.

  • The house consists of 2 suites and 3 bedrooms which can comfortably accommodate 12 people. The décor is tasteful and the bedding is new and of good quality, so a good nights sleep is guaranteed. The large lounge is on the ground floor. Next to this, allowing disabled access, is the ?CQueen Margot?D suite. This has a large, east-facing double room and a 2nd west-facing single room with desk. Upstairs is the 2nd suite, ?CHenri IV?D, accessed via a mezzanine, which consists of a large double room with a view of the chateau and garden, a 2nd single room and a baby cot and changing table. The 3 bedrooms are the ?CEdouard?D (double room), named after Edward, The Black Prince who came from England to besiege the chateau in 1369, ?CAliénor?D and ?CFlorette?D (twin rooms).

Notes: The 75m2 and 4.6m high lounge boasts a beautiful Vianne stone chimney and a floor of oak, cedar and poplar. It is spacious and a great place for gathering. There is a Hi-Fi for music and high-speed internet access. In the smaller lounge you can watch TV or a DVD or read a book in peace, while enjoying the view of the chateau chapel and clock tower and the cypress strewn countryside which resembles Tuscany. In winter there is under-floor heating on the ground floor and radiators upstairs so you will be snug and warm, especially around the log fire in the lounge. There is a patio outside the kitchen with an awning and a large table where you can dine with family or friends, using the ?Cplancha?D for cooking vegetables, meat or fish fresh from the market.
