Experience an authentic cave house in the Sierra de Crevillente mountain region with modern facilities. Half an hour from Alicante airport. This magnificent cave house is in the village of La Canalosa, half an hour by car from Alicante airport and the coast. The villages of Hondon de las Nieves and Hondon de los Frailes are 10 minutes away. Nestled in a small valley in the Vinalopo Mitja region, the backdrop is the magnificent Crevillente mountains, 837 metres high and covered with pine trees. The rural landscape consists of Olive and Almond trees, vineyards and orange groves. The area is perfect for walking, cycling, mountain biking, motorcycle touring or just relaxing. A magnificent property in a mountain location but still just 30 minutes by car from the coast and airport The property is situated in a pretty courtyard surrounded by landscaped gardens with numerous variety of cacti and trees including fig, banana, almond and olive. 30 minutes from Alicante by car and 15 minutes from the major town of Elche. La Canalosa is in the Hondon valley between Hondon de las Nieves and Hondon de los Frailes. Within easy reach of the major wine producing areas of Yecla and Jumilla and 35 minutes by car from the coastal resorts of Alicante, Santa Pola and Torrevieja. The area produces wine - from the local monastrell grape variety, olive oil, figs, almonds and various fruits. There are numerous bodegas (wine stores) where you can sample and purchase wine and olive oils. The region is also noted for its walks and cycle routes, route of castles and spectacular fiestas - the major ones taking place in the month of August.

Furnishings: The cave house has been furnished to a high standard and we have tried to retain character whilst ensuring your comfort. The kitchen is fully fitted with all cutlery, crockery and utensils.

Bar area: There is a small bar area which is stocked with local wine and other drinks for the use of guests (charges apply) Within the bar there are numerous board games, a deck of cards, dominoes, chess set and a dart board. We also have a petanque court and set of boules in the extensive gardens.

Pool: The pool is 10 x 5 metres and is surrounded with a metre high wall. It is gated and locked. There are 6 sunbeds with cushions, two parasols and a shady gazebo.

Golf: Alenda Golf course is just a twenty minute drive away. There are also numerous courses at both Alicante, Torrevieja and Elche.

Other Activities: Mineral Spa, Bird watching, Motor Cross, Quad Biking

Cave attached to owners house. Friendly couple who gave us plenty of space and privacy but were they if we needed them. Lovely quiet spot and the pool area is secluded and a great place to relax.
Cave is simple and adequately furnished with lots of games, dvd's and local info.
great relaxation.

A really relaxing and enjoyable week in a unique house. Perfect to keep cool when it is very hot outside and a lovely pool to relax beside.
We stayed for a week and were made very welcome by the owners and their two dogs. We definitely recommend the paella and made plenty of use of the BBQ.
You will certainly need a hire car for the whole week even if just to get to the village shops. We used the local firm in Hondon for airport pickup and hire car and would recommend them.
The fresh food market in Hondon de las Nieves is excellent and the Bodega is worth a visit. We also recommend the tapas at the restaurant in Hondon de los Frailes.
There is not a great deal for teenagers to do in the immediate area, but then ours didn't get up before 11 am anyway. The pool was well used and having satellite tv was fantastic as we chose to stay during the Olympics and could still keep up to date.

A Warm Welcome at Casa Arquero

We stayed at Casa Arquero for ten days towards the end of May this year. Our hosts were fabulously friendly and attentive. The property was everything and more that we imagined from the website although, owing to a spell of rain, the coolness of the cave-house environment did not suit my elderly mother. Well equipped and spotlessly maintained. Highly recommended for a serene, get-away-from-it-all holiday. The nearby town of Hondon de las Nieves offers an authentic taste of the 'real' Spain which we loved. And the pool was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!1

The cave house

We were there in the june 2008. The first days were a little rainy and also cold. But we could warm ourselves with the nice fireplace! The cavehouse was then a little humid . But when we had fully sunshine, it was a great place to spend our holiday! Normally we are very active people, but the swimmingpool invited us to enjoy the lazy afternoons in the sunbeds at the swimmingpool! The nature is amazing there! This village and the place is such a big contrast with the Costa Blanca, which we didn't like!
The hosts were very friendly and there were always there if we needed something!

We have been in Elche! A great city to sightseeing! We have been visiting all the castles in the region with the car. (Biar, Sax, Monovar, Villena, Ibi, Tibi, Elda, Novelda) You can find this nice drive in a book in the cavehouse!
We went to Cal Blance, Cartagena. Also we have been at Marina playa, which is very nice!
Also Murcia is worth visiting!

We had a nice stay!

Tranquil cave - inland Costa Blanca

Fantastic experience of 'caveman' living, clean with mod cons and value for money. Pool was ideal for our 5 year old to learn to swim, and large enough for the older ones. Very hospitable welcome from Diana and Bill, without being intrusive. We have been on many internet booked villa holidays -this one was one of the best, we would return; choice of 'real' Spain eating places locally. Ideal for relaxing in this tranquil but interesting area; convenient to Alicante airport, aquaparks etc.
