The seaside village of Mohlos lies on the north coast of Crete, 33 km east of Agios Nikolaos and the same distance west of Sitia. The inhabitants have been farmers and fishermen since antiquity, while the tourism industry is a more recent occupation. The village has very good tavernas, mini markets, cafes, bars, car hire companies, etc. The islet of Mohlos is an important archaeological site, with the remains of one of the greatest harbours and naval centres of Minoan Crete. The coast is only five minutes' walk away, offering a series of small pebble beaches, the tiny harbour of Mochlos with its fishing boats, and the small world of a picturesque traditional village at your feet. Nearby are the beautiful amphitheatrically town of Sitia, the unique palm forest of Vai, Ierapetra, the lovely 'Nymph of the Libyan Sea', Cosmopolitan Agios Nikolaos, the beautiful Lassithi Plateau and Historical Heraklion with the famous Palace of Knossos.
