RAW HOUSE - The interior design of the Ferliga house is based on the raw, timeless simplicity. The large glass surfaces dominate the oriental prospect, giving a view onto the green spaces and harbour, letting le light reverse itself in the two large living spaces. One is deeply contaminated by the outdoor surroundings, so much that it could startle or scare at the break of night. The other has a more intimate nature, in which it is possible to find an homely atmosphere, thanks to the connecting function it has with the bedrooms and the ultimate centre of this project: the water closet. A large wall separates these spaces, acting as a filter thanks to a double empty space which exchanges colours and glances. In july and august traffic asks a little bit of patience for mouvements by car. It is also cause of noise for the house, especially because of a road not too far.

To reach the house go along the A4 Milan-Venice motorway and take the Brescia-Est exit if you are coming from the West, or the Desenzano exit if you are coming from the east. Follow the signs for Salo, Lago di Garda Occidentale. To get to 67 viale Europa, do not go20into the town centre. The house is on a road with a panoramic view which links the towns of Tormini and Villa di Salo. If coming from Brescia-Est drive along road 45bis until you reach a tunnel, just over a mile before Salo. Turn right in this tunnel and follow the signs for Desenzano, continue straight for half a mile after leaving the tunnel. The entrance gate will be on your right. If you are coming from Deseszano, go straight over the Cunettone roundabout and continue for 2 miles in the direction of Villa di Salo and Tormini. The entrance gate will be on your left. The gate is next to a bus stop, with another bus stop just opposite.

To get to the centre of Salo' or the beach, where there is a 1 mile footpath along the lakeside, you can also walk down a small country lane which descends steeply through the olive trees and rosemary bushes. This lane starts just 20 metres to the left of the entrance gate, on the other side of the road. Walk down and arrive at the Campovarde church. Continue down the old medieval lanes, near to the Melograno restaurant. In the Campoverde lanes there is also another excellent restaurant: Trattoria Pizzeria Al Gallo, where the owner, my friend Pierre, is waiting to meet you for a game of pétanque. It takes 15 min to walk down to Salo?9s central beach, but a good half hour to climb back up. If you are sporty, get on a bike and you?9ll be there in a second. In the garage there are three mountain bikes available, each with a padlock and key. There is also a baby seat available for one of the bikes. There are two bus stops outside the gate.

  • The regulations outline payment and timetables. The first part of the rent is payable on booking by card and the second part is payable on arrival. We also require a 1000 EUR deposit which will be returned when you leave. We ask you to arrive at 4pm on Saturday and leave at 10am the following Saturday. Bedding and towels for five people are provided. Let us know in advance if your requirements differ from this timetable.

  • In the info pack there are flyers, brochures and all sorts of information on sports activities, bike rides, walks in the park and visits to nearby towns and monuments. There are also DVD?9s if it rains. The DVD player can also amplify the sound from your laptop. Both two large wooden tables have internet access. The house does not have WiFi access, only wired. The small, high-pressure squirt gun is used to clean the WC and not the bidet!

  • The house is an ideal place for a family with children. It sleeps up to 5 people (not inc. babies). The fifth bed is a camp-bed for one person. In the children?9s bedroom there are 2 bunk beds and a cot. In the house and the garden you will find unusual objects and toys for the children which will excite their curiosity. In the master bedroom there is a double bed and a wardrobe which my grandfather Fausto received as a gift from his carpenter cousin on his wedding day in the late 1930s. If it rains don?9t forget to put away the two cloth hammocks, the cushions on the swing seat and the table tennis rackets. Please also put the parasols down. The two green plastic seats can stay outside. There is a fantastic slate table tennis table in the garden.

Notes: The kitchen is fully equipped. There are saucepans and utensils which are more than fifty years old and work perfectly, as well as newer non-stick pans. The south-facing garden has two showers with hot and cold water. One of the four cloth sacks contains bay leaves and rosemary which act as disinfectant and insect repellent. To clean the house, plug the 7 metre wire into the small sockets next to the microwave and next to the TV (behind the curtain). Cleaning produces and first aid kit are under the sink. The telephones are not in use so as to avoid disturbance from outside calls. The manuals for the domestic appliances are in the last drawer in the kitchen. There are also two adapters in the white box.
