Jacks Cottage's is 50 Kilometers from Cork voted by Lonely Planet 4th of the 10 best cities to visit in 2010. A long, narrow lane leads to the cottage and takes you to another world: one in which the loudest sounds are made by pheasants in the surrounding fields or the cormorants on the river. It is possible to see otters and salmon in the wild, and a huge variety of birds, while you unwind in this historic, comfortable house and riverside garden. The recently redecorated cottage, which retains its traditional charm, will allow you to rediscover lifes simple pleasures. It would be difficult to find a more peaceful, romantic and secluded location for your holiday, it is perfect for nature lovers, bird watchers, artists, fishermen and walkers. All modern conveniences are provided. Bed linen and towels are included in the price, as well as household items such as cleaning products and basics for the kitchen. Well-behaved pets are welcome. We now have a hide on riverbank.

Beautiful, romantic, peaceful! Well maintained- felt rather spoiled by owners generousity! Gave great advice for exploring and sight searching. Worth the trip down the road. Nature Lovers Paradise!! The most beautiful place we have ever stayed, unspoiled, rugged adventure awaits!! NOT FOR CITY SLICKERS!! Become one with the surroundings and you'll have a great time!

Beautiful cottage

Wir haben Jacks Cottage im September/Oktober 2009 besucht und es fiel uns wahnsinnig schwer, wieder wegzufahren. Es ist einfach ein Traum, wer die Ruhe und die Natur liebt, kommt hier voll auf seine Kosten. Jacks Cottage ist ein uriges, wahnsinnig gemütliches Häuschen, wir haben es sehr genossen, abends am Kamin zu sitzen und zu plaudern. Wir haben vom Haus aus eine ganze Menge schöne Ausflüge in die Umgebung gemacht - wir haben uns aber jedes Mal wieder auf das Haus gefreut. Das Wetter war sehr schön, so konnten wir sehr oft ganz gemütlich im Garten sitzen und die wundervolle Umgebung genießen.
Im Haus selber hat nichts gefehlt, die Küche war perfekt eingerichtet, das Bad war wunderbar, alles war in Ordnung. Ein Urlaub in Jacks Cottage ist absolut empfehlenswert für alle, die einen romantischen Urlaub der Hektik vorziehen.
Auch das Vermieter-Ehepaar Bridie und Ben waren sehr zuvorkommend und freundlich und waren immer hilfsbereit, wenn es mal Fragen gab.
Wir sind uns sicher, in den nächsten Jahren wieder einmal dort unseren Urlaub zu verbringen.
Ach ja, und da war ja auch noch Molly, die süßeste Katze der Welt, sie ist während unseres Urlaubs bei Bridie und Ben ausgezogen und hat die vierzehn Tage komplett bei uns verbracht - das hat richtig Spaß gemacht.
Wir wünschen allen, die demnächst Jacks Cottage mieten, mindestens genau so schöne Tage, wie wir sie verbracht haben.

Don't tell anyone - but it's brilliant!

What a place! If you're looking for somewhere away from it all in fantastic countryside which is very comfortable but has lost none of it's charm this is the place for you. If you're looking for somewhere with lots of nightlife (other than owls) - forget it. The cottage is extremely well appointed, very spacious and Ben and Bridie are very welcoming and the river at the bottom of the garden is stunning. One thing though - if you're planning a visit with a mini-bus think again, the lane, whilst very beautiful, is very long and quite clip, - quite exciting but worth consideration if you are a nervy driver with a big new car!

Die Schönheit und Ruhe der irischen Natur

Die Ankündigung des Online-Inserates hat uns in dieses wunderschöne sehr gut ausgestattete Cottage geführt. Nur der erwähnte schmale und lange Weg zum Cottage, war noch etwas untertrieben. Es war wie die Fahrt zum Ende einer wunderschönen naturnahen Welt und ein tägliches Abenteuer. Kaum breiter als unser neuer Galaxy, war er aber mit eingeklappten Seitenspiegel zwischen hohen Gebüsch und Feldmauern teils tunnelartig gerade zu bewältigen. Außer dem Vermieter konnte auch niemand entgegenkommen, was seit 1999 nur 6x geschehen wäre.
Ansonsten liegt das Cottage malerisch am seeartig verbreiterten Blackwater-River, welcher auch wunderbar mit einem Ruderboot befahrbar wäre. Die Strömung ist allerdings, bei an die 4 Meter Tidenhub zu beachten.
Ausflüge in der Region und an das doch noch 20 km entfernte Meer sind vielfach möglich mit feinen Stränden (Youghal und Ardmore), alten Ortskernen (Youghal, Dungarven), Bergwanderungen (Knockmealdown Mountains (Vee), einigen Castles (Lismore, Caher, Cashel, Blarney, Dungarven), einer Tropfsteinhöhle (Mitchelstown Caves), Shopping (Dungarven, Cork) und einer Vielfalt an Gastronomie.
Das sehr freundliche Vermieter-Ehepaar war stets erreichbar und bedacht, alle Wünsche zu erfüllen. Ihre Empfehlungen für Gastronomie und Ausflüge haben wir gerne angenommen.
