Photos and Description of this Palau holiday house

Our charming house is just a few steps above the famous Porto Rafael ‘piazzetta’ (little plaza). Porto Rafael was founded by the Spanish Count Rafael Neville in the 60s after having sailed in the crystal clear water of the Maddalena’s archipelago. He found the perfect place: a beautiful granite coastline full of self sown vegetation and many little beaches where the admiral Nelson dropped anchor in the 1800. Our property has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, a small living room as the main living area is the terrace where you find a large table and a singular nice kitchen. Besides the ‘piazzetta’ and its beaches, you can also walk to a couple of different beaches, perfect for families and children. Walking distance there is also a little lovely harbour where you can rent a rubber dinghy or organize tours to the archipelago’s beauties (Budelli Island and its ‘pink’ beach, Spargi Is., La Maddalena Is.

Nearest Airport: Olbia Costa Smeralda at 40 Kilometres
Nearest Ferry: Palau at 3 Kilometres
Nearest Beach: beach at 50 Metres
Porto Rafael is located at the extreme north-east of Sardinia, just in front of the very famous Archipelago’s Maddalena beauties (Budelli Island and its ‘pink’ beach, Spargi Island, La Maddalena Island, Caprera Island, so on). Palau, the nearest village, is at 3 km and there you can find information point, shops, bikes renter, get the ferry boat for La Maddalena, for Genoa (mainland) and organize tours for islands. At 20 minutes by car you can choose to be in very famous places of Costa Smeralda, like Porto Cervo or Porto Rotondo with their wonderful beaches, or in Porto Pollo (5 km of white beach) famous all over the world to lovers of wind and sports related (wind surfing, kite surfing, sailing) and where you can rent all the equipment; you can also riding horses on the beach. A large selection of farms where you can have local food in a charming contest is available very next.

Good apartment in a beautiful village

Great view of the sea and literally 2 minutes from the beach and Piazetta. It is a small quiet village (although we were there very early in the season at the beginning of May) with just a couple of bars and shops.

Apartment is not huge but is more than adequate. After all, you will probably spend most time on the beach or on the terrace. We were there with 2 adults and a young child and it was big enough but more and I think you might feel a bit crowded. Lots of steep steps so be careful but that is all part of the character and probably true of most places in the village/area. Well equipped.

the best way to experience sardinia!

While the living quarters were small, it was more than you would need with the amazing patio, piazza, and beach this location has to offer. Porto Rafael was beautiful, and we experienced it well in this house. I really have no complaints, as we were very comfortable here. We spent many nights eating outside at the outdoor table, enjoying the view. I would definitely return.

Very beautiful area of Sardinia to stay in. Lots of beaches nearby and even within walking distance from the house. This is a great spot for those who like to enjoy the outdoors ... so we loved it. The house is clean and comfortable but very plain. Nice bathrooms and a perfect terrace to use. The terrace really make the house worth staying in. The kitchen is a bit old but has everything you need. Owner is very friendly and accommodating. There is a small market within walking distance which is really convenient but you do need a car to get around to local restaurants. Renting a boat is a good idea for at least a day since some beaches can only be reached by a boat. We would definitely recommend the house and the location.

Die Wohnung wurde originell in die Umgebung (Felsen) eingebettet. Der Architekt hat sich hier was tolles überlegt ! Bei schönem Wetter ist die Terrasse mit der offenen Küche ein wunderschöner Ort mit herrlichem Ausblick aufs Wasser. Wir würden wiederkommen, vorausgesetzt, dass die Betten erneuert wurden. Ein Satz neue Handtücher wäre auch nicht schlecht. Ansonsten alles vorhanden: sogar eine Waschmaschine. Insgesamt: ein schönes Fleckchen Erde.
