Located in the beautiful, canal-side village of Poilhes in the Languedoc region of the South of France, La Fontaine has been tastefully renovated to create a luxury holiday home. Featuring a private swimming pool, 3 bedrooms, each with en-suite shower, a terrace, sunken patio and entrance courtyard, La Domaine de la Fontaine sleeps 6 The Canal du Midi flows through the centre of Poilhes, and the passing boats add colour to the local scene. Surrounded by vineyards, the village makes a perfect place to spend a relaxing, away-from-it all holiday, or alternatively, if you wish to explore this extraordinary area, it is just 20 minutes from the long, sandy beaches of the Mediterranean and 30 minutes from the mountainous Haut Languedoc national park. As Poilhes is situated in the ancient Cathar region of France, which abounds in history and romance, there are many places of interest to visit in the surrounding area, including the iron-age hill fort of the Oppidum d’Enserune, with its spectacular view of the Etang de Montady. The city of Béziers is just 10 minute away, and Narbonne, which, was the first roman city established outside Italy, is just 20 minutes. Carcassonne, with the largest intact medieval castle in Europe, is an hour away, as is the bustling city of Montpellier. Slightly further afield is the Catalan city of Perpignan, and Barcelona is just 2½ hours by motorway.

Holiday in La Fontaine, Poilhes

It was a sheer delight to holiday at La Fontaine, taking a break from stressful jobs in the UK we were able to immediately relax in beautiful surroundings. John and Judy Turner did everything they could to make us truly welcome including a complimentary "welcome pack". The villa, it's terrace and pool area are to a very high standard, typically French with all mod cons. Poilhes itself is a beautiful quiet village straddling the Canal du Midi with superb views across the neighbouring Languedoc countryside and vineyards. The village is very conveniently placed for beaches-Valras and Narbonne, and the cities of Beziers and historical Carcassonne. Although we had no children with us, La Fontaine is particularly suitable for families. The village restaurant is reasonably priced with good food and a friendly welcome. We thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing time in Poilhes, finding time to paint, walk, cycle and getting to know the very friendly "locals". In summary we definately recommend a holiday in La Fontaine and indeed we enjoyed it so much that we have made arrangements to return later this year.

We had a fabulous holiday in this lovely villa in Poilhes!
Our family of 5 (3 children aged between 7 & 12) really enjoyed our stay at the villa. The stunning property has been renovated sympathetically to a high standard and was perfectly clean and furnished very well. On arrival we were greeted by the owner Judy who was very friendly and helpful (and even provided us with some essential groceries). Throughout our stay we felt that Judy & John would be available to help with any issue if required. The villa description is accurate and if anything the photos do not do the villa justice.
We spent most of our time lazing on the very private terrace and swimming in the pool which was bigger than we expected.
The nearby town of Capestang has a couple of decent supermarkets and a twice weekly market with great quality fruit & veg.
We enjoyed exploring the local area and particularly enjoyed the beach at Narbonne Plage.
We certainly hope to return in the future and would recommend the villa to friends and family.

Beautiful, peaceful and truly French!

We spent 2 glorious weeks in La fontaine during July. The house is full of charm and felt more like a home than a holiday rental. It is very tastefully and simply decorated in a French style. The owners Judy and John were very welcoming and friendly. They left us a few nice goodies on our arrival which came in very handy.

Our 3 daughters - 14, 9 and 4 - loved the pool and spent most of the time at the house submerged in it. The garden is very private and we enjoyed many barbecues and eating alffresco!

The Canal de Midi is a few minutes walk away as are the lovvely vinyards.

We ate a few times in the local restaurant which was delicious and just a few paces away from the house.

All in all a beautiful place and house to spend your holiday in!
