Walking & Cycling:
The Dordogne offers the walker a beautiful environment in which to walk, surrounded by delightful pastoral countryside, sweeping fields of crops and walnut orchards plus dramatic vistas from cliff tops. Explore this countryside at your own pace, as you go through valley bottoms, into woodlands, pass medieval castles, honey coloured stone-built villages, meandering streams and prehistoric sites. Montignac tourist office,just 10 minutes drive, sells a comprehensive cycling and walking map with 31circuits. There is also another circuit which focuses on prehistoric sites.April is already warm here. In Spring, (May, June) and in Autumn (September, October) the countryside is more lush and the scenery even more beautiful, since the daylight is slightly less harsh than in the summer. Temperatures in autumn and spring are typically 21-26 degrees. Bikes can be hired locally on a half day , full day or weekly basis at a shop near us (10 minutes walk). We can provide sample itineraries.
Fishing:
At Le Four a Sel, you can combine beautiful French surroundings with your favourite sport: fishing, right on your doorstep. We are next to the Vezere river, where Barbel is a good catch as the river is fairly shallow and fast flowing. At the end of our property is a fish ladder and a weir. In addition to this, along the valley you will find many streams, clear and beautifully tea colored, excellent for fly fishing Fishing Licenses and bait can be purchased at Montignac where even the local supermarket stocks bait.The Vezere is replete with: trout, carp, roach, pike, perch, bream, black bass and gudgeon. There are also several lakes nearby where one can fish, including one in Thenon just 20 minutes away with a small beach and restaurant/bar with live music during the summer.As Dad enjoys a day’s fishing - Mum can relax under one of the walnut trees in the orchard while the children can frolic in the pool or entertain themselves with a selection of games in the the 2 play areas onsite

You are spoilt for choice in our area.Here is a selection :The world famous Lascaux caves is just 10 minutes away. Roque St. Christophe, Roque Gageac,Hautefort Castle,Chateau Castlenaud,Beynac,Domme,Commargue,Milandes -are no more than an hour's drive,some of these just 20 minutes away.Gardens of Marqueyssac & Eyrinac. The Perigord Noir has some good golf courses with the added attractions of the region's wine and food to help you recover from the day's exertions plus a plethora of tourist sites and attractions to add variety to your holiday. Three 18 hole golf courses 40 minutes away .We can arrange tee off time.
