Location: Ventenac-Cabardes in France
The picturesque village of Ventenac-Cabardès is but a few hundred yards down the hill, with its local businesses, post office and tennis courts, and outlooks the Pyrénées and the Montagne Noire in the distance. With the region being a major wine producing area in France, many vineyards around are open to the public for visits and wine tasting sessions.
With the Cathar castles a stone's throw away, as well as the Gouffre géant de Cabrespine (a spectacular geologic curiosity) and Montolieu (often referred to as the "Village of Books"), the possibilities of day trips will seem endless. During the summer, the Festival of Carcassonne offers numerous shows and performances, free for most of them, in both the medieval Cité and in the lower town. All the excitement of a vibrant region from this haven of tranquility!
