The gite is in the department of Charente Maritime on the South West coast of France. This area enjoys the second highest hours of sunshine in France. The is situated in MEDIS :The bakery, post office, bar and general store are a pleasant 10 minutes walk or a 5 minutes bike ride. ACCES just 15 mins from the A10 Paris- Bordeaux autoroute which makes it easy for travelling from the North of France or travelling from Bordeaux. The airports of La Rochelle and Bordeaux ensuring an unstressful flight drive to this holiday location. Within an hour drive, the beautiful ancient port of La Rochelle( famous for its old port, large aquarium, casino, boutiques and restaurants) Our local airport is here which serves Ryan Air and Air France from the UK and is approx 45 minutes drive. Train links: High Speed Trains (TGV) stop at Angouleme and Bordeaux, easy change for local trains to Saintes (23km north of us). Beaches: Within 10 15 minutes drive of Médis you will find some of the best sandy beaches in Europe. The 3 star Michelin rated 2km long fine sandy beach at Royan stretches north to south from the marina to the cliffs of Vallieres at Saint-Georges-de-Didonne. Here you can hire the wonderful old-fashioned blue and white tents to protect you from the hot summer sun from where you can watch the kids learn to windsurf, body board or sail at the water sports centre. The beach continues between the two cliffs at Saint-Georges-De-Didonne,. From the path around the lighthouse on the cliff there are beautiful views of the Pointe de Grave, the Pointe de Suzac and the lighthouse at Cordouan. At the Pointe de Suzac, there is a path, which goes along the cliff, and this makes a very pleasant walk to Meschers. At Merchers and Les Plages des Vergnes you will find sandier coves with caves and rock pools. The beaches of the Cote Sauvage (north of Royan) have the best waves and fabulous sand dunes. Ro
