Miramar belongs to the municipality of Vila Nova de Gaia where the famous Port Wine cellars are located. Today it is a district of grand Porto.
In the past rich wine merchants from the Douro Valley built their opulent beach residences here. Today, Miramar is very well maintained and low built, upscale suburb with nice attractions. Peaceful during the week, the Miramar promenade can be crowded with the locals on weekends.
The top attraction is the most photogenic chapel on the rocks, Senhor da pedra.
The actual mayor improved the area, with modern gardens holding high tech fountains, restaurants, cafes, esplanades, beach promenade, 15 km of jogging tracks along the gold sandy beach and the golf course.

With trains departing to historical central station Porto, taking 25 minutes journey for just 1,50 euros per way. Easy access from the airport with the new metro line, with final stop at the station,than train to Miramar.
